Latest LILA Update.

This shows how easily people's satisfaction with their cars can easily dramatically change. Let me explain.

Lila has been ill for some time, rough starting problem, new glow plugs fitted, no change. Injectors removed & sent away for testing, 3 days . Story goes, all 4 faulty and "leaking". Waiting for Hy approval for warranty repair, apparently $900.00 each, so we're told .

Was asked Hy might want me to authenticate the filters I supplied at the last service as it was noted they didn't come from their stock. They were bought through a supplier, referred by a forum member. Fortunately for me, the filters supplied were genuine Hy parts and I had the feeling there might be an argument ensuing over this.

Contacted today and told all ok to proceed, so no probs with the filters. Car should be ready on Friday.

Now, is has been said many times here, that using other branded filters is ok, and it may well be, but let me say that I'm greatly relieved that the opportunity to "pass the buck" due to non Hy brand filters would have meant that we would have to involve another company and get into a bun fight with them & Hy and not have the car repaired while it gets sorted out, which could take ages. My advice to anyone supplying parts is to stay with Hy or you could risk this scenario happening to you.

BTW, the warranty runs out on this car March 1, this year. Now you can see how upset I would have been with the Hy brand if this had happened later in the year. As it is, I'm very happy with how it has all been handled.

I think that stinks personally and definitely black marks Hyundai for me.

In Europe the law stops car manufacturers holding customers to ransom like that, as long as parts fitted are equal to, or of superior quality.

I completely get the bit about "getting into a bunfight" ... but it does look like a get out of Warranty clause and anyone can see that...

I dont like that at all from Hyundai, in fact I'm really pissed off about it!

Steady Ffoxy, they did come through in the end and I haven't been asked any more details about the filters. We'll never know whether it was going to be an issue or not.  :undecided:

Suzuki never questioned my daughter about the parts I used on her Swift though Phil, and niether did Fiat when I had my GP. I know the Warranties are shorter but Hyundai claim they back up their Warranty with quality. Fiat dont make such wild claims publicly, but Suzuki have gained a very good reputation for reliable dependability without alienating Customers.

It's still blackmail however you look at it and whatever the outcome.

Hi Phil.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

It's all rather complicated actually, the fiesta's a manual so I have to drive it  :whistler: Daughter is only auto licensed

Does that mean you can get a drivers license for auto cars only...

...and then upgrade to manual ...

Hi just saw this post, in my state NSW you have to drive a manual tans car to get a manual licence,if you just pass in an auto your licence has auto trans only on it.

Sorry to read about your troubles Phil . Did you ever use diesel fuel additives? & what brand of diesel did you mostly use? Also lastly did you change your fuel filter? & at how many k? If I remember I can remember you thinking about fitting a second fuel filter did you ever do that? Just hope this is fully covered by warranty as injectors are very expensive like $1,000 each or close to that.

Sorry Phil, I should have read the whole post, before posting. But still would be interesting to know if you ever used diesel additive & if so what? Also what brand fuel? & how many k on the car now?
You should buy a lottery ticket!
I don't think we should judge Hyundai on this issue as it's more the servicing dealer that wanted to check what filter not hy but that's normal for dealers as they make a few $ out of inflated service part $ .

@Lakes

You have a good memory, I did investigate putting a glass visual filter on but as the cars are both under warranty, decided against that.

I have never used fuel additives at all, but as we bought both cars 2nd hand, I can't vouch for previous owners. Not sure what brand of fuel as the daughter fills up when required and that could be anywhere. There have not been any suggestions by the dealer that the fuel is an issue at all, so I assume they have tested for water etc. and the car has come up clear.

The car had 55k when purchased and is now due for 75k almost immediately.

Thank's for that info Phil, always good to know.
I always use an additive just to stop algae growth in tank, specially if u don't do high k's. sometimes you can pick it up from servo's storage tanks.
Good luck with it.

What additive are you using, I have a product, but have not purchased any because when discussed here, most people have never had a problem, so I thought I was over reacting.

Here is a link to a powerpoint presentation for your info. Other diesel owners can make their own choice too.

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=1153BD2D1DD28BCA!234&authkey=!AD0pOyNz9-0W41g

I have made this statement before and I still believe that through normal usage, tanks will inevitably gain some water as a result of condensation overnight from moisture in the air as the tank empties, so this stuff should be essential.

@rick,

As a truck driver, how do you cope with moisture condensating in truck tanks, or is it always too hot where you are.

That's an interesting power point presentation.
Do you know anyone who's used it over a long period?
And do you know how much it is?
Would you have to add some every time you refuel?
