THe car is approaching its first birthday and so I'm contemplating performance upgrades. I've revisited the tuning box mods but while trawling the interwebz, found this:

http://www.youtube.com/v/xCWDM6H1T9k

http://www.youtube.com/v/1YzZgLMfX_o

Its reasonably priced and apparently works. There is a variant for the U2 engine with the normal range of power/torque upgrades quoted. It can be reversed and there's no physical change such as clipping the tuning box onto the fuel rail.

Are there any views on this tool or ECU remapping in general?

Hyundai doesn't appear in my dropdown list for the bluefin device:

Actually its there: http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=11&fueltype=2&model=421&variant=2284

You just need to put your xray interwebz glasses on. Or at least I did anyway.

It appears that Superchip have two methods

Go to a franchised dealer and have them do a remap

or

Buy a Bluefin device and DIY

My take on their website is that Bluefin is not listed as available for Hyundai as Steve discovered - only a dealer remap.  Your link is for dealer remapping.

Could it be that the i30 can not be remapped via the ODBII port and therefore the  Blue Fin device is not an option?

I noted that there are dealers located in Australia.

I had a good exchange of emails with the local distributor based in NZ. Basically for this model its an ECU out update owing to the encryption Bosch use. I'm not that excited at this point since the tuning boxes provide the same sorts of outputs and are less invasive and less expensive.

Just had mine remapped.  The ECU had to come out this time, but mapping can now be done via the OBDII socket.

Happy to discuss the details offline if anybody is interested or about to start modding.

The revised map gives smoother power delivery; gets rid of the turbo spike which the OEM map has; greatly improves 50-70 mph (overtaking) performance and the fuel economy has improved from 52-55 MPG to 58-63 MPG (5.43 -> 4.87 l/100Km). And just a tad more power.

If you're the modding type, there are certainly gains to be had with the U2 engine.

Yes, if they can prove it wasn't a Hy operation, then it and the associated electrics, will not be under warranty.
