Nothing is ever that simple.. not sure if final drive is the same in the 6 speed.. if you could get it really cheap and were capable of doing it (and reversing it if necessary) yourself... maybe worth a go... :undecided:

I doubt it would work, and its definitely not worth the effort.

I've also thought this
It uses the same engine and presumably the same mounts etc so it's probably possible,
Anyone now if the gearbox is linked to the ecu?

ECU reads engine RPM and Vehicle speed to work out which gear ratio is being used. By changing gearboxes it will read incorrectly and possibly cause ESP/ABS malfunctions and more than likely throw Incorrect gear ratio codes with engine light on.

The best way to get 6sp is to buy a 6sp car. That way, every little detail that is required for 6sp is already fitted.
To get an extra gear in the box, the external dimensions may be different.
However, some people enjoy the challenge etc and if that's you, then it would be your decision. Not my cup of tea at all I'm afraid.

Not worth it on a modern car.

My mate is about to undertake an auto to manual switch in his merc 190e 2.3 16v (a thing of true beauty) and I might be allowed to wipe the floor clean afterwards if I'm really good.

I'm gonna pretend you guys didnt say that. Beauty is more than skin deep. And beyond that is the heritage also. They spawned the first road going performance/racing cars and original evos.
