Here's a couple of photos of the new exhaust I had installed yesterday, ( sorry they're not the best quality :( )

I'd take them back then and get the best quality.

Not at all, moving up to a 2 1/4" system required minimal back pressure and a tri flow muffler will accomplish that and get rid of to much bark, the resonator is straight through and only removes the droning sound.

I cant stand the over sized exhausts and mufflers some of these idiots put on their cars, they sound absolutely ridiculous and generally make their cars lose power

Nah should have dropped the muffler box and just run a sweet hotdog at the rear with a 4" tip.

 that's sounds exactly like what I was talking about, the dork around the corner from me has just done that to his Lancer, every time he drives past the house in the morning I feel like going out and just smashing that car to pieces and then slap him senseless  :crazy3:

Sounds alright at the moment, has a bit of burble to it's idle and reasonably quite when driving, will sound even better once the new headers go on...they arrive tomorrow :happydance:

We'll go for a cruise down to Bunbury or something next time you're over Dazz, it'll be finished ( as long as I don't think of something else to do :winker: ) and driving nice :goodjob2:

Don't encourage me Tim, I'm impulsive enough doing this on my own :D

I think if I was to add anything now it might just be a front strut brace, I don't go racing around but it will still help some through corners...can feel it lean out slightly mid corners at 50 - 60 km.

The extractors got delivered this morning so they are currently over at my exhaust guys shop getting some modifications to suit the new exhaust, the difficult part of this is a jig has to be made up so the mods can be done without the extractors being on the car and the flange plates are also a problem since Hyundai use 97mm to centre holes and in Australia the closest we have to match is 95mm which means a lot of stuffing around

He'll do the best he can though and once I get them up to RPW so they can be installed for the tune they might need to make some further slight adjustments " hopefully not "  :Good_luck:

It'll be alot flatter with a rear swaybar.

Good to see the headers showed on time.

Possibly but it sits pretty flat now, the sway bar with the GD independent rear is quite good I think, I can notice the strut flex in the front more so now with the stiffer springs and low profile tyres.

Which braces did you have in mind?

Well there's two, the first one is light duty and cheaper and maybe all that is required :link: Aluminum Silver Strut Tower Brace BAR Upper FOR Hyundai 2012 2015 Elantra GT | eBay
The second one is more suited for racing as it's much heavier duty with a heavier price tag to match :link: 2012-2016 i30-Elantra GT Solid Strut Bar - Shark Racing

Big gap between the two. Personally I wouldnt look twice at the alloy one, the brackets look weak and the beam would flex. Id definately save my pennies for the solid steel one.

I used a similar Duralumin one on my Mitsi and they work very well ( ultra strong ), it's only to restrict the flex and not completely stop it which is fine for street cars.
The other one would be rock solid and designed for racing but then that one would also weigh a ton, not looking to add weight.

I probably wont bother about it in the end as I don't go racing around, just a small thing I noticed that could be rectified if I was super keen :)

Compromise = Failure
I dont even like strut to strut braces. I can see me building my own on the racecar. Strut to firewall to strut to strut, a big triangle OR triangulate down the tower if there is room.

Tim, you're talking about a completely different requirement, a track car will obviously need a true "X brace strut setup" probably front and rear including a chassis X brace for added stiffness, not something that is necessary for standard street driven vehicles as you physically cant throw the gforces into them like you would expect on a track...something light just to give that added bit of steering response is all that is needed.

Yeah I was talking 100% track car with my last post but i still stand on my thoughts of the alloy brace, but ive got little experience to go on.

Nah should have dropped the muffler box and just run a sweet hotdog at the rear with a 4" tip.

I had a similar setup (minus the 4" tip) on my old Holden Barina and noise levels were fine...a little bit louder than stock but certainly not noisy enough to attract any attention from Mr Plod...  :goodjob:

Lol you could run open headers on a Barina and not be much louder than stock  :P too bad you didnt go the 4" tip though lol.
