Hi all,

I recently had my 60k service done. This is the second time Suttons have made a boo boo and i wasn't letting them get away with it..

 1) My log book never gets stamped. I always have to walk back inside for someone to stamp it. I purposely leave the Service book out on my passenger seat for them to stamp, yet second time lucky, they didn't. Not a major deal but the second however is..
 2) So this is the second time my front bumper has been hit after being serviced. Now i am not sure how the other dealers work, however Suttons checks the vehicle before going in and marks all "Damages" before entry. I wait in the waiting room, some guy comes up to me and tells me (Throttle body is dirty with carbon, brakes need bleeding etc etc..) wasting no time i said no to all because a car that has traveled 60k should not have a carbon build up in the throttle body. (i later checked myself and i was right, clean as a whistle). Anyway back to the point, they bring me my car and it was washed for free (very shit wash mind you). i inspect the car before paying $530 and i noticed a scratch on the driver side of the bar. I called a manager and he explains to me he doesn't know whether or not it happened before or after the service. I said to him, your employee marked the paper with all damages and your telling me it was already there???? Get a grip mate.. so he will be fixing the entire bar.. Again.. second time this has occurred, the first was the passenger side, which i was at fault for not inspecting the car before driving off.

Do i really need the "Dealer Extended Warranty"? Could i just service at another Hyundai dealer as i have lost interest in this one..

Rant over..

Dealer extended warranty is usually not worth a pinch.. If unhappy with the dealer just use an independent.

You'd think having just lost their GMH dealership, they'd be trying harder with their other makes.

What Dazz said.

If you were to look behind the throttle body butterfly there will be carbon build up, it’s always there when I remove my own throttle body which I wipe away.

That in itself would be an alarm bell. Suggests they are not meeting the standard.

I'd give them the flick.

It's not that completely.
Apparently GMH has culled a great slice of its dealer network as part of some rationalisation program.

@CraigB - Thank you. How do you clean it? I went to super cheap (had a gift card) purchased new air filter (Ryco) and also purchased some throttle body cleaner (spray can). I read the instructions and seems easy, however if you have experience on this, expert advise would be greatly appreciated :)

This is the same dealer I have been using since day 1 (also purchased my i30 here). Fortunately I’ve never had any physical damage after any service. I do agree, however that they are good at the “try-ons” during a service and will not miss an opportunity.

My i30 is now also past it’s 5 year service.  I did succeed in getting them to install a new AV unit after they bricked mine during a firmware update which they denied doing. Hyundai came to the party on this issue.

FWIW I’m always conscious to avoid servicing my car during Xmas / here holiday periods because I wonder if they even do anything (well) as they pump through a heap of cars on these days.

Given we live in the same region, I’d be interested to hear of any recommended quality independents to ditch this mob.

Hey @pidim - Yes i should have waited until after Christmas, however i did not want to miss the interval. All that being said, when i purchased the car, the Sales Manager was all about the service and customer experience. There service side however i have been un-impressed with. I live in Emu Plains so will need to find someone here in the Penrith Region to service my Vehicle. I would drive it down to Wollongong for my Uncle/Cousin to Service, however that is out of my way (1hr 20 min).

When I do find one, i will be sure to let you know.

Cheers for that. It's very much a team effort. Shambles is the "tech head", I'm the "Gas bag", we get  great support from our UK and Aussie Moderators, but the forum would be nothing without our wonderful mix of friendly and helpful members!  :victory:

I’ve looked at some of the new Nulon foaming throttle body cleaner myself so will eventually give it a go, I’m not really sure of the process with using the spray :undecided: might be as simple as spraying a little foam in the body and it dissolves away :undecided:
I was trialing different size throttles for some time so having them repeatedly on and off made it easy to just wipe the inside edge clean with some CRC on a rag.

@Lakes , check the link in my reply #8 above. Sutton's is specifically mentioned. Also, not sure which branch of theirs it was but recently saw a pic of one of their Holden dealerships rebranded in Nissan signage.
GM is definitely removing 30 dealerships from their 230 strong chain by 31 Dec.

Hi viva,
I used my own guy at Camden for our 15 service.
Used Parra Hy at Rosehill for the 30 service. Was about 2k early but I  wanted the road assist renewed and to have a noise put on the system re warranty. ( in case something happened over xmas)
When booking told them i would wait, got there at 730, done by 1000.
The service was fixed price,  they did a "rotate, bal, align" for an extra  $90.
Wash and vac done as well. Only extra they tried was to switch the air in the tyres to ????
I asked what was wrong with the Korean air that was in them ?
Couldn't get car to repeat noise in workshop - couldn't hear noise in workshop over all other noise.
I will go in the  new year when I  can get a loaner .

See how you go .

Thanks @mickd for the advise. I believe they were talking about Nitrogen for your tyres. There supposed to be better in terms of loss of air. I spoke with my father-in-law who was in the tyre industry for 20+ years and told me its not worth it. What sort of noise is coming from your car?

I Might check them out in the new year for my 75k service.

40 years in the tyre industry here, @Vivalazuzu. And I agree. Nitrogen is not worth it.

Nitrogen is a huge scam in Indonesia, too. The masses just don't know any better.

Makes a ticking sound when cold. Have discussed here before,  not the only one,  seems to be oil pump cover . Replace and all good. 👍

Trev sorry for slow reply been offline past three day's.
buttons started combining different makes, there chulfora sales sell new Subaru  and I think Suzuki but no hi cars, there arnciff sell hi cars but I have not been past any lately the hombush was mostly holden but as holden sales down I am not surprised Nissan sold too. there will not be any one make dealers in future as they need to combine to get the sales. at lest I would think so.
happy new year.
