A rather old thread you linked and the quoted posts within are even older, no problems with mine and cant say I've heard of any either.

Some issue with Kia Picanto crank shaft pulley problems from 2011 and many many years earlier, no relevance to i30's from what I can see.

From that picture the "chip" looks to be the timing mark.
