Hi new to the forum. This is my first car bought back in September of 2016 with 135,000km on it got it check by racv all good and bought it. Some months later i started to hear a clunk/knock when taking off and slowing down and turning the wheel. It seems to be louder with warm days. Got it checked out by my independent and all was okay underneath. A couple of months later took it to another Mechanic and they thought it was my front struts but said I should go to pedders. went to pedders last week and found my Front struts needed to be replaced with the top mounts and my lower control arm bushes were starting to go so got it all done today and noise is still there. drove back to pedders with the noise and took the guy for a drive and has agreed to take another look and if he finds the problem fix it for fee. It is driving a lot better since I had the work done. The Cars now done 154,000km Any other suggestions where it could be coming from I think it sounds like its coming from the rack or column. Every place I've been to is very mystified.

I do have a audio of the noise but not sure if i can attach it.

Thanks

Yeah, well. I was going to say don't go to pedders , the chances are they'll say a whole lot of stuff needs doing. Too late for that.

If you feel it's within the rack/column then one bit that is a common fail is a plastic bushing within the column. My 2008 had a knock/rattle at times but I don't here it taking of and slowing down either.

I've recently rebushed the arms, new ball joints and new KYB struts, Got about 200000k. Old shocks were not too bad, bushes were getting tire but not broken, ball joints seemed ok but one of those things when you in there and the arms are out, why not.

there's plenty of videos and searches to read , here's one.

I don't know if Fulcrum reaches down as far as Vic but they'd be my first choice. Just my opinion.

Proabably have to upload it to a shared folder like google drive or something and get a shared link. I don't think you can upload much at all file wise here. IMGUR is great for photos. Not up to speed with the other sites.

Is sounding like its coming from further down the column towards my feet. If put the hood up and press down on the headlight area you can hear it knock and grown. Same with taking off and stopping seems to put what ever it is under stress.

@jude_ti30  Unfortunately, I did not see this query immediately. 99% chance that it is the rubber damper bush inside the steering column. The noise transmits throughout the steering system, so you get all the wrong diagnosis as above.
The bush costs $5 and the replacement job takes 4hrs to complete. Find a mechanic who has worked on Hyundais and understands this complaint.  :)
tw2005 has given the correct link.

I just did a google search on the rubber bush problem and complaints of this part failing are rampant!  :crazy1:

It would be a real Hy oversight if the replacement part installed failed down the track again, just like the original one did.

Does anyone know if the actual bush-Part 563152K000FFF has been modified/strengthened by Hyundai from the many failed ones? What causes the failure?

Check the front hub nuts. I had a clunk on take offs and turning corners and it was the the nuts on the front hubs. They need 200nm of torque on them. Hyundai just this morning replaced both of the front ones with revised nuts with longer threads on my 2012 gd and now the noise is gone.

They are supposed to be made of better material, I had a replacement fail after about 40K, but   :crazy1: I may have been given old stock.

Thanks for that.  :) The steering column is different on the GD, so far no FD type bush problems.

Mine was an FD. And Pelican Motors at Caloundra told me they'd done several. Mine was done at Fulcrum who said the replacement bush seemed very soft.

They aren't all that solid, given that they are star shaped and made of some synthetic rubber/ plastic.... :whistler: stuff.
