Could someone please advise where I would find the housing of chips in the engine bay.

I have no idea, but, if you put your model, petrol or diesel etc,
one of our more knowledgeable may be able to help.

By Chip I guess you mean the ECU, which should be situated behind the battery near firewall.
A word of warning! If you don’t know what an an ECU looks like and you’re not skilled in systems engineering then you shouldn’t even think of playing with it
also most chip upgrades are done via a chip box which generally plug into the engine bay OBD11 port though I don’t know of any one who does these yet for non turbo versions of the i30.
