GOT PROBLEMS OR ISSUES? => GENERAL => Topic started by: druggist on October 11, 2018, 06:59:29

The clock in the radio on my FD MY11 has reset itself a couple of times lately.
It has always run fast, by a couple of minutes per week but recently I started the car to find time totally wrong.
Car battery is fine, and radio is holding phone numbers and radio station tuning.
Any ideas?

Could be numerous things, system crash - vehicle power surge - unit on it’s way out :undecided:
-
Whatever it is it's likely component level in the circuitry. Is this a Bluetooth model? How important is the time if all other functions are ok?
-
It is the one with the bluetooth function.
Can live without it but just wondered if it had a backup battery or something

To my knowledge the backup is the car battery. Fault has to be internal based on what you describe. Could even be be bad solder joints, who knows, bad oscillator , all wild guesses really without the circuitry to look at
-
Dry joints would be my first guess, lucky if at the connectors.
-
Thanks Gonz, would you suggest disconnecting and reinserting connectors?
Should I spray anything on connections before reconnecting?
-
It would be the easiest, perhaps the only fix short of replacement. A tiny squirt of WD-40 might help.
-
:crazy1: Liklihood nil, you've already stated it's holding settings. WD40? Is it squeaking?
Just going to be messy and potentially get into plastics.
Contact cleaner maybe but I feel it'll be a waste of time

That's cheating, after the fact. Nice find though, will have look out for it next Bunning Trip.
ironically I was with father staring atthe WD pile for bike chain lube, looking for something dry. :goodjob2:
