Title: Sat Nav map updates
Post by: Griffy on February 27, 2021, 11:40:18
Hi all,

Not sure if cross posting is allowed but it seems like we are now free to get the latest navigation software and update it ourselves!

Check it out at:  :link: Official Hyundai Motors Navigation Update Website (https://update.hyundai.com/AU/EN)

Be prepared, it is a big file to download (3.4gb for me)!

All credit goes to the original poster ~pi~ from Whirlpool, thread: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9xkr26y3 (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9xkr26y3)

Useful link, though not [yet] for non-AU members.

Useful link, though not [yet] for non-AU members.

Seems like it is only (so far) for Australia, Canada, Middle East, New Zealand, South Korea and USA.

Hi Guys,
I realise the thread is a little old.
However, just to add some specific info that relates to the updater software amd files.....

I believe that in the USA owners get 3 years free map updates, hence why they make the updater and files available.
I suspect that allowing access to A/NZ software & files is probably an oversight.

There is clearly still nothing on the Hyundai.com.au site that gives any indication they expect/permit/overlook you doing your own updates.
I spoke with them today (about a few things), their reply was that the updates come free with your Hyundai dealer scheduled service.
Anything else and if there's a problem.....it's gonna cost ya big time.

BTW, they do say on their site that AU updates are usually released in Q2 or early Q3 each year - got caught out last year with a 2019 update in June 2020.
i found the update site seperate to this forum and was looking for something else when I happened upon this thread.

Hmmm on the contrary, I got an email from my dealer today which explicitly points out the ability to self serve using the MNSoft online tool as part of a scheduled service. I seems like there is conflicting information going around since they allow a DIY option.

I got an email too a while back regarding this, but my satnav was updated with my 60K service a few weeks ago.

I found some relevant info that may be of some help.

My car had it's first 'proper' service in January & the [service]report says the SatNav was updated [looks identical to what it was previously].

12 March comes along & Hyundai directly sends me an email about the SatNav update just released.

I go & check it out & of course it will cost me at my local Hundy dealer seeing I already had my yearly checkup.

The new (if Nov 2020 is new) website has instructions on how to do the update yourself.

For Windows 10 you download a small EXE file & install that & it can update your system either USB stick or SD card, depending on what you have.
I had to use an SD card & just in case things went , unplanned, I used a new 16gb card & kept the original safely locked away.
It took about 40 minutes to download & write the files to the card.
I did not read the instructions properly a few days ago & got all frustrated when I went through the process & wrote the files to a USB stick & wondered why it would not work.
Re-reading the instructions, I found the bit I missed the first time.

'paraphasing' " if your Sat Nav has an SD card you must update via SD card if not you must use a USB memory device to update the system."
Today I brought my newly formatted SD card to the car & away it went.
I just followed the update instructions on the screen
- the system restarted three times (all while the engine is running to avoid battery pooping itself).

New(ish) map installed & went for a drive to test it out.
- The same Aussie girl's voice
- map layout is more refined & less 'cartoon-like'
- all my driving destinations were restored automatically - maybe from my USB stick
- not sure how it did it but it's got all my info retained.

So I had a good experience without much hassle.

My dealer's service report said this was done [no it wasn't] the website & software is dated NOV 2020 which pre-dated my 10.000 km service in January.
Lucky for me I can DIY - the update worked - no cost (except the SD card).

Thanks I will probably do this shortly on my Tucson and the ex-wife's Kona.

We both got emails telling us about the update being available and being applied at the next service but despite mentioning it at the time of dropping it off not confirmation of it being done on the service invoice which details quite inane things so I suspect it wasn't done on either vehicle. They both went in at the same time, mine for a 15,000 , Trish's for 24 months service.

They say we check for updates and apply any that are available, but I doubt they did if not documented.

Hi all,

Stumbled across this thread, didn't know we could do our own Sat Nav updates.

I've now applied the latest update to my i30 SR, took about 15 minutes, using the original Sat Nav SD Card.
System looks a little sleeker now, like the "actual" speed display option - shows the speedo is always over by about 5kph, but good to know exactly what your speed is.

The sounds of nature are a bit of gimmick but I'll give them a try whenever it seems appropriate :-)

Thanks to all that have posted on this thread - so pleased I can apply these updates without having to wait until service time.

Cheers,
Pappy

+1 on this - I think Hyundai is very deliberately keeping this 'obscured' so that the perception is that you have to have dealership services to have this done. I just did one myself - not very tricky, had to borrow a friend's Windows PC as I'm Linux myself - the Hyundai program they make you use to DL the update is clunky and a tad misleading - I've a 2017(MY2018) PD - but their software stated the update available was only for 2018-2021 PD's - so I had to 'hope it wouldn't brick my unit - which thankfully it didn't but was inaccurate and misleading.

This seems to be for Australia.
Do you guys think it can be safely applied to the European software version?

I would say not.

The dropdown menu shows the countries for which the downloads are available:

Hi,

Applied the update, was straightforward as per previous update.

Some observations:

- You can now swap the power/vol knob & tuning knob functions, perfect for us right-hand drive to have easier access to the power/vol knob.
- Seems many school zones have disappeared from Sydney's eastern suburbs.
- 3D buildings have gone backwards, less buildings, and less detail.
- Live traffic updates no longer displayed in map, used to be red/yellow lines indicating traffic density.
- The map auto-zoom feature has changed and is much more aggressive with zooming depending on speed, easy to modify.

Hopefully Hyundai will fix some of these in the next update.
