Hi,
I had a quick search I forum, from what I can see a standard 1.8 litre GD i30 takes 5w-30 oil?
Any recommended brands? Nulon etc?
I am mainly asking because I also own a VF commodore that takes the dexos approved 5w-30 oil and I was wondering if using the same oil will cause any longer-term wear effects on my i30?
My local holden dealer has informed me that they now sell 5L dexos approved 5w-30 oil for about $25 which is hard to find at that price at supercheap and is suppose to be better for the longer-term health of the engine.
Also, Holden has started replacing the OEM sump plug around $6 every service as it the same cost as replacing the OEM washer. Is the i30 just a washer replacement?
The car has done around 120k and is 2013 model.
Many Thanks

If the sump plug works fine just leave it unless the head is worn out or it's a leak.
I usually do Pernite 5w-40 HPR5 for my FD 2.0. Costs me around $35/5 litres when it's on sales at SCA.
I believe that @CraigB or @tw2005  uses 5w-30 10 Tenths from my memory.

I’m fairly sure Dexos oil is unsuitable for Hyundai engines, I personally use Penrite A5B5 PAO (true synthetic) oil or same spec in full synthetic 5W-30 which is suitable for GD to PD 1.6 ltr petrol engines, inc turbos.

The 1.8ltr engines require a A3B4 full synthetic in a 5W-30 or 40, stick with the good brands as many cover that spec, I highly recommend the Shell Ultra 5W-40  :goodjob2:

Hyundai use an aluminium washer for sump plugs. I use Mitsubishi one use crush washers as that's what Hyundai was using before changing to the cheaper aluminium washer.
