Title: Fuel consumption
Post by: George23 on November 24, 2020, 18:11:31
Hello!
I just bought a 2016 GD 1.6 diesel two weeks ago.
This is the first diesel car that I own.
I drove about 500 km and I noticed that the consumption is somewhere around 7l/100km. I expected it to be lower.
I mostly drove on countryroads out of the city.
I really tried to save as much fuel as I can but I still cannot achieve a better consumption.
Is this consumption normal? Am I doing something wrong?

My 2015 diesel has averaged about 52 mpg over the last 4 years, that's about 5.4 l/100km. I have manual transmission, I believe the automatic is a lot worse.

My 2015 GD Tourer always gets 5.8L/100km  as soon as we get out of town. Around town is in the high 7's low 8's - which doesn't bother me. My XR6 ute gets around 8L/100km out of town and 18/19 around town (geared for the highway).

Maybe the consumption is high because I am not used to diesel. How many revs should I have when changing the gears to drive more economical? Changing the gears at lower revs will harm the DPF?

Keep in mind we have no DPF (in earlier diesel i30) in Australia and that will use extra fuel as well.

Firty cruises on about 1700 and I've never taken her over 2500 on a gear change.

hi

i typically get around <7l per 100klm around town and i've had as low as 4.8l out on the hwy at 100kph on cruise control. :happydance:

tried pushing the reset on your odometer to 0[average mode] after each tankful...or when you want to do an economy check?

you also neeed to stick the peddle to the metal on occasion to stop carbon build up [injectors turbo exhaust] - this doesn't effect my economy figures. in fact she loves it! :Drive:

I drove back late at night after a dinner meeting on a Monday, so the streets were quite clear.
3.5L/100km on the display as I pulled into my garage.
