Hi all, new to the forum and hyundai. Just got a second hand I30 sw 1.6 crdi 2008 automatic. The ride is nice, but the suspension is like on a sports car, you feel every bump on the road on your body. Also in the rear, my wife and kid are just trown up and down left and right I used to.drive renaul, it has great suspension, but I believe this is not the case with all Hyundai i30?

  I'm guessing you mean CW (as in a wagon) i30's do lean towards a firmer ride. They actually tune the suspension slightly differently for Australian roads. Renaults and other french cars are renowned for their softer ride.

Are your roads pretty rough over there? Have you checked the tyre pressures? For fuel economy and tyre wear most of our members run 36-38 psi but you may be better with 32-34 psi to compensate for the firmer ride.

Its not so much for small bumps, you feell every iregularity on the road and especially.on the highway,  if there is a bump the car sort of jumps in tje air, and we jump inside
 Also, when is the right time to change shock absorbers? I have 170.000 kilometers.

Not sure whether you're asking because of your harsh ride but replacing shock absorbers won't fix that unless they're bottomed out or seized. A shock absorber's job is to eliminate oscillations caused by undulations in the road, returning the car to a stable ride quickly. Cars with worn shock absorbers tend to swing and bounce like a small boat (or an old Cadillac).

Gonz, depends on what exactly failed in the shock absorber, some times they can harden/lock up, needs inspection anyway by the sounds of it.

First thing to do is sit in the cargo area and bounce the car up and down.
If it feels hard to move or solid you probably have a partially or fully seized shock. If it moves freely then it might be normal.
As Dazzler touched on, we have our own unique suspension tuning in Australia so it is hard to comment on what is normal or not.

Sounds logical, but if you are capable of D.Y.I. be very careful (take all safety precautions)

Thank you all for your inputs. I will make an inspection and let you know about the outcome. Beside the suspension issue,  the car is great, I am surprised by Hyundai.

Just a short update. One of thenfront springs is broken and it is imposible to test tje shock absorbers. I ordered new pair of strings, hopwfully that will soove the issue.
