It still sounds very sus to me. There are plenty of high distance cars traveling around with no worries at all, something doesn't add up.  :fum:

The extreme rarity of such an event makes the case for it to be covered by warranty all the stronger!

What's the expected (and reasonable) lifespan of such components?

Given that brakes are the Number One safety item you'd hope that they would last longer than 4 years.

When I was in the game one of the first things that we looked at during a service was the condition of the brake lines, hoses and other fittings. A brake line shouldn't suffer a catastrophic failure such as this without earlier signs of wear, perishing, etc.. And that should have been picked up at a previous service.

To Smarty, good luck getting it resolved.

So, a component critical to the safety of the car, has perished.

And that doesn't warrant urgent investigation by the dealer?

Hmm..

Any mention on this re fergie as she was over 4 yo with loads of miles on

Geez I'd be pissed if that was my car,not only with Hyundai, but who ever has been servicing the vehicle,as generally high pressure brake hoses(as this must have been one if it was pumping fluid out with each push of the pedal)will bubble or bulge before failing.I have only ever had one brake line failure and that was so many years ago.also on a very poorly maintained vehicle.

If you have not gotten the under bonnet thoroughly clean and the brake fluid neutralized, say good bye to any paintwork it touched.

Hey guys, sorry for the thread digging!

Earlier today when I dropped my i30 CW at the dealer for a checkup they told me that there is an advisory out (Code 40CC04) to replace the brake lines at the exit of the brake pump.

They had already ordered the new parts in advance knowing that the car would be there and will perform the intervention.

They told me the current brake lines didn't had the desired durability, I dunno if it is related to OP problem?

Very odd! Should really be a recall if they are correct! Thanks for the heads up. I am using tapatalk what year is your CW?

Sorry all, I thought I posted my outcome.....

I took it up with the service manager who agreed that it shouldn't of happened and took it back to Hyundai, and they agreed to replace under warranty.

It was one of the short rubber hoses with threaded unions, off of the abs unit. And it took two and a half weeks to source the part from mainland Europe.

As a even newer update, my car went back for unrelated minor issue a few weeks ago, which they told me that there was an outstanding recall with the braking system.  The guy that booked my car in, remembered my car and the unusual failure and said that it was my car that probably caused the recall; as it came out two weeks after my car was fixed.

Funny that,

If you hadn't have kicked up at their 'not warranty' determination, where would we be today....

Yes the fix is replacement hoses, as it seems with most recalls they are done when the car goes in for service or other repair

It did cross my mind to use someone else for my next service, which marks my car's fifth birthday and end of guarantee, but getting it done by Hyundai seems like the best idea now if they will apply the fix. :)

Make sure you have the headlight wiring fix and the drivers door cable fix too.

I believe there is a  TSB for this (one) brake pipe, but it only effects some production from the Nosovice factory. Didn't apply to my 2009 car, it was a later period.

I am VERY surprised that thee is a flexible pipe anywhere before the proportioning valve and ABS. It is a potential failure point, without split braking system backup and a serious design flaw IMO.
