hi, i have in my i30 PD a 5 inch touchscreen radio with rear view camera. I got 2 radios 8 inches, the first has NAVI, the second without. during replacement it turned out that the rear view camera and USB did not work. I was browsing the forum threads and I saw that it is enough to pull out 4 wires from a large plug and connect to a separate socket, fortunately I have cut cables in big screens.
How to solve the rear camera problem - is it enough to change the position of the wires in the plug?
Anyone have a pin scheme from a smaller radio?
There would be someone who step by step would show or describe how to change these radios?

Hii, I also did the same and swapped my head unit to a larger one (bud i didn't had a camera), its very hard to find some pinout scheme. I had to Buy access to the Hyundai GSW (https://service.hyundai-motor.com/euro5/login.tiles) site to find some. What i did you can find here below.
When replacing you need to change some cables in the block connector:
-Vehicle speed from B18 to A38
-USB Port from block A3, A4, A5 and A6 to the separate USB connector.
From the 8" scheme below i think you have to find the cable for the video power and put it in the A6 pin (where one of the USB cable was)
Maybe u can compare what cables you have to much for the 5" scheme below?

Do you still have access to this webpage?

So I am looking to upgrade from my basic 5" head unit to the bigger 8" I think it is?
I have spoken to some car technicians where I service the car and they give very vague answers.
Will I be able to use any OEM 8" satnav head unit I find in my car, even if the head unit is from the UK for example while I own a car in Sweden?
I understand some cabling might be different but I found some wire schemes so I might be able to figure that out.
Does the 8" satnav unit have Android auto capabilities? To be honest, I don't care about built in satnav as I prefer to use Waze through my phone, hence why android auto is much more important.
EDIT:
Is the satnav built-in in the unit or is it a secondary device that needs to be plugged in?
I believe of course that its built-in, but my father.... "who knows, just ask, there are no stupid questions".
So who is right here lol?

Hello I would suggest you to have a look at scheme.

I would say that the 8" without navigation has the same scheme so you can follow this one.
I would suggest you to create a plug and play cable system so that you are able to mount the old one in case the new one gets broken.
This should be it

Hi thanks, Im looking for USB connector that is for this this 8" radio. Anyone have an info where to find them or how to create one?
-
Hi, I still have a problem with replacing this radio, I connected the wires from the usb plug to the wires from the plug according to the diagram and the usb still does not work.
I will try to describe my work step by step.
after dismantling the radio, I replaced the "vechicle speed" pin from plug B18 to A38. Then I cut the USB cables from the plug and connected them to a separate, cut plug that I got with the radio:
pin3 - GROUND (black / orange) + red
pin4 - DATA HIGH (White) + green
pin5 - Data LOW (yellow) + White
pin6 - VCC (black) + black
below adds photos. I still have a question, what is the matter with setting the clock in 8 "radio, after connecting it was impossible to enter the time settings, the icon was dimmed. I guess it's about the time with GPS, but how to turn it off

Im also having this issue. However my rear view camera is still not working as it should. Is your camera working when you shift to R? If so, what pins did you switch?
In case of your USB. Does your USB charge at least? Mine did the charging but it was not transfering data through. So the issue must be in 2 pins. I guess D+ and D- might be wrong.
-
You have to separated usb to other plug, im still working on this... Check the pin scheme and try to remove and connect pins to right places
-
And can you confirm with a picture that your reserve camera is working and you managed to also to successfuly connect phone and have Android or Apple CarPlay avialable?
I seem to be failing at this. I cannot get camera to work nor phone through USB.
-
Im still waiting for full solution, i have similar problem just like You.
5” with camera to 8” without navi ?
-
When I tried the USB cable that I posted earlier here the radio did actually connected with phone and I was able to use Apple CarPlay or Android Car feature. When I connected the wires so that the actual USB/AUX ports will be working it did not work as it should.
At first try it noticed me of connecting to phone but then it popped a messaged it failed to connect. And after that it never even showed the message. However, the phone was charging but not connecting and I tried everything I know I could. Another thing is that when I plugged USB Flash drive the radio was able to play music from it and also to write files on it.
Reverse camera is not working. I got into engineering menu and found camera detection there but I could not change it. I downloaded logs so that I could somehow figure it out.
To get to engineering menu you need to got System info and there tap 4x time left of Update button and 2x on the right side of button. At least with version of what I have in my radio.

Maybe the car itself needs to have some sort of update IDK. When I asked Hyundai about it they are not providing any info regarding this. I find it pretty sad that they are not offering after purchase upgrades. It is another business for them.
It would be beneficial to meet somebody who has this radio in the car from the build and find out what versions of software/firmware they have.
I am posting images that I took while I had it mounted.

This is a 5" radio (infotainment)
And this one here is 8" radio (infotainment) with navigation but the scheme is the same for the one without a navi having Apple/Android car smart features

Hi, the thumbs images are linked to their full resolution but Im accessing it from the desktop.
I havent figured it out yet fully how to make it work but I am getting there and found the problem.
Here are 5 things you need to make to make it work
USB/AUX
Time-Date
Reverse camera
Vehicle speed
IGPM pin (Fuse 1)
USB
For USB to make it work you need to change the USB/AUX port for the original one that is part number 96120-g2050.
Example link for 96120-G2050 (https://www.google.com/search?q=96120-g2050&hl=sk&sxsrf=ALeKk00q-FVgTSKaSbXDK_JflqsZ7y0wfw:1605475183317&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwic4vyPvYXtAhVPUhoKHevfCmgQ_AUoAnoECAgQBA&biw=2560&bih=1297)
Or you can make one by swapping what you have for this one.
Link to AliExpress unit (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33012517976.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.247f73215Ts8RA&algo_pvid=23e02c92-90a6-4d95-afd2-f8bf7ae850e2&algo_expid=23e02c92-90a6-4d95-afd2-f8bf7ae850e2-17&btsid=0ab6f82c15974357096441990e461e&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603)
Then you would need to buy the cable with both ends to be the same. One you would connect to 8 inch AVN unit and the other to the new USB/AUX unit.
Cable for USB to AVN (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32906009318.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.5fda310b7U2L05&algo_pvid=2e0357fe-3710-454e-a350-a71ee6db9b66&algo_expid=2e0357fe-3710-454e-a350-a71ee6db9b66-38&btsid=0bb0623b16053573044515051eb5cb&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_)
However, I must say that I dont plan to use AUX so that would not be connected as the connector is different and I do not know who to make an adapter for it or what kind of connector that is.
For TIME to work
You just simply need to buy any GPS module with Fakra connector. Then inside the card find a place where you would put it and it would hold it. Usually the module has a magnet.
Reverse Camera
For camera you would need to connect following cabels
Connector A on 5" Audio to connector A on 8" AVN
[A] Pin 20 to Pin 6 [A]
[A] Pin 32 to Pin 20 [A]
For vehicle speed
Connector B on 5" Audio to connector A on 8" AVN
Pin 18 to Pin 38 [A]
For IGPM pin (Fuse 1)
Connector B on 5" Audio to connector B on 8" AVN
Pin 32 to Pin 33
If you want to get to Engineering Mode to the following
Go to Settings and then to System Info and there then tap 5x on the left and 3 times on the right
:link: AVN 8" without NAVI, Engineering mode i30 PDe - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYh9vl7PN6g&ab_channel=MajorShaker)
Here is a video from Engineering mode where I found out that R gear is not detected as everything else is.
:link: 5” Audio to 8” AVN - Hyundai i30 PDe not detecting R gear - YouTube (https://youtu.be/lNPCVmxXHKY)
The reason why USB/AUX that is with the 5" radio is not working is due to its limitation. You can do the cable according to scheme but the data is not transfered to the AVN unit so the mirroring the phone is not possible and must be done dirrectly through the cable as shown in the scheme. The camera is detected automatically by 8" AVN unit whereas in 5" there was need to have a connection on cable A on pin 36. Also turning camera on was done when put to R position as 5" Audio would get information through Backup Lamps lighting on cable B on pin 25.
This is all that I know.
PS: I need to do the pin on B cable 32 to 33. I havent done them and maybe this is the last reason why my AVN is not functioning when gear is in R position. Good luck

Hello, I can confirm that doing pin from 32 to 33 worked and everything works as expected now. Even partially the USB port that goes for 5" Audio radio. What is happening is that it sometimes disconnects, or not connect or not read the phone correctly. So it is best to get the USB module for direct cable.

Do you have some instruction how disassemble " USB module" and "gear lever buttons" area? I would like to replace usb module and install some extra buttons around gear lever to modify my car.
There is great foto instruction from Crutchfield to replace audio system, so I know how to remove covers around radio but cant find anything about covers mentioned above.

Hi sorry for the late reply. I havent done it yet as I am still waiting for the cable. However here is what I have found so far about it.

Here are the pictures of center console removal
You can put out console by putting plastic screwdriver under the area in this picture and pull.
To remove the gear knob just push the button bellow knob and pull hard.

Howdy
the power and video signal wires of the camera I mounted in the media unit but there are still C CAN wires from the camera and I don't know where to connect them (white / yellow) Behind the unit there is a connection plug in white and yellow wires . Can I tie the C CAN wires there? or elsewhere.
-
C CAN is white and brown. I tied them somewhere to the fuse panel in a socket on the back of the panel. Do not tie the wires there in the plug behind the NAVi. That plug is for Detent.
-
Did you mount the camera into your car? Do I understand you correctly?
Im not quite sure what are you asking here.
-
Yes, I mounted the camera but I answered my colleague where to mount the wires from C CAN
-
Howdy
I mounted the wires in the plug according to the diagram above, I bought the usb cable and Android car doesn't work. Tell me where I went wrong ....
-
I solved it, it was the connection cable between the unit and the poor quality Aux / usb module. I replaced the cable and it works perfectly.
-

These instructions were super helpful! However, how the heck did you remove the USB socket from the plastic mount? I tried pushing and pulling in both directions while holding in the clips, and I was unable to actually remove it. This prevented me from replacing the USB socket with the new one :(
I ordered an adapter so I can get AUX working. This explains why so many functions are grayed out in the first picture
I assume Time/Date not working because I do not have the the GNSS cable as I thought that was for navigation and mine isn't a NAV model.
I'm assuming that something like this will work based on another reply I saw for this issue. I ordered one and should be here in 2-3 weeks with a bit of luck.

EDIT:
The new USB module came in a bracket of it's own and I was able to remove it from the bracket finally, which means it should be the same for the module stuck in the car.
Push in metal clips/tabs on both sides and push it out from the front. This is what I tried last night but it didn't work, however maybe I just need to brute force it more. I will try again later tonight.

I can't get the module out of the bracket.
I'm pushing down the metal tabs and pushing it out towards the front, however it seems to be stuck in 3rd place I've highlighted with a circle. I'm scared of brute forcing even more than i have.

I had the same problem.
I inserted a small flat screwdriver in that place to get it over the third bracket. It was the hardest part of the entire process of changing the navigation.
Be gentle as to not the break the housing. It will take some tries but I am sure you will do it.
Unrelated to this:
I also have a Xiaomi phone, a Mi 9T (non-pro) and Android Auto wasn't working for me.
The problem was Dual Apps. If you're using that option you have to deactivate it: settings -> search dual apps -> cog top right -> something about disabling. You will then have to restart the phone and AA will work.

There really is a third bracket at the top?😂 WHY HYUNDAI WHY
-
I mean the bit that you pointed at.
I'm not eve sure if it's a bracket, but it was clearly stuck there so I supposed it was a one and pushed it with the screwdriver.
-
Pushing it with a screwdriver doesn't seem to do anything
Thanks for the AA tip by the way!

EDIT:
Okay i finally got it!
I inserted a small screwdriver at the top from the front rather than the back, and then i pushed it gently down while creating a gap for the small plastic ridge to get through.

Rather than starting a new topic I thought I would keep the information together in this thread. I have a 2021 i30 PDe which had the 8" headunit with wireless Carplay/Android auto and I have just swapped it out for an 8" NAV model headunit from a 2019 PD car. It plugged in without modification and everything works aside from the fact it doesn't turn off when the car is turned off/the door is opened. Even after locking the car the headunit will stay on for a length of length of time before turning off. Does anyone know where the headunit gets the signal the door has been opened?
-
Hello. I want to replace my 5 unit with 8 navi. I do not have a rear view camera and I have a USB cable with a new plug. Do I have to cut any cables apart from the speed of the car?
-
Hello
I changed 5 inches to 8 inches now it's time to add a rear view camera. I bought a universal one. I want to connect it like in the diagram. can someone confirm that it will be fine?

good afternoon thanks for this very informative post. I have i30 2017 petrol 5door manual car with reversing camera and a 5" screen id like to upgrade this to 8" version (with or without sat nav) and use android auto. Now I understand that besides changing the information unit i need to also change t usb socket plus cable in between and cables to the head unit it's self. However I want to ask a couple of questions, which I'm not clear on: -
1) Can the unit be changed without the need to cut any cables. IE can I just by the adaptor to get the right pin configuration? (I don't wish to cut wires)
2) Will it affect the controls on steering wheel?
3) Will my reversing camera still work?
4) Do i need the pin for unit if i by off eBay. As if it ever got reset\wiped i guess i would need the code to use the unit corrrect?
-
Hello Locka,
1) Yes, you can change the head unit without cutting any wires. I used an adapter from Aliexpress that worked without a problem. They only mild inconvenience is that you need to connect the pins from one side to the other yourself. But there are schemas to help you.
This is the adapter: :link: 1Pc Car Stereo Radio 13pin+60pin Male/Female Plug Wire Harness Adapter For KIA K2/K3/K4/Elantra/Mistra/Tucson Wiring Connector|Cables, Adapters & Sockets| - (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000341578279.html?spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.27424c4dsCrn0i)
I for one also bought a GPS antenna with a fakra connector so the head unit will have GPS positioning. Only do this if you plan to buy a 8inch unit that also has GPS: :link: FEELDO Auto Fakra 3 Meters GPS Navigation Antenna Cable For BMW Volkswagen Golf MFD2 RNS510 RNS315 RNS2 Benz Car Accessory|Aerials| - AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000533216073.html?spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.27424c4dsCrn0i)
You can tell whether a head unit has GPS by the SD card slot at the bottom.
Also, if you plan to buy a head unit with GPS, you will also need to change the air grill. You can see the differences here: :link: i30 PD 2017 - infotainment: 5 inch to 8 inch (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=60577.msg510858#msg510858)
You can find the pinout here: :link: i30 PD 2017 - infotainment: 5 inch to 8 inch (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=60577.msg510463#msg510463)
The pins that need changing (from current cable to new head unit):
A Connector
3 - AUX & USB Jack (USB/IPOD GND) - NOTHING
4 - AUX & USB Jack (SPDIF USB D+) - NOTHING
5 - AUX & USB Jack (SPDIF USB D-) - NOTHING
6 - AUX & USB Jack (USB/IPOD VOD) - NOTHING
7 - Rear View Camera (Camera V/IN) - A7
21 - Rear View Camera (Camera V/GND) - A21
32 - Rear View Camera (Camera P/GND) - NOTHING
36 - Camera Detect : Ground (GM03) - NOTHING
B Connector
25 - Reverse - NOTHING
2) No, all steering wheel controls function as usual
3) Yes, the reversing camera will still work. It will in fact be better because the 8 inch head unit has better resolution, thus you can see things behind a lot better.
4) I bought one off of a wrecked car and there was no pin necessary. Maybe I was lucky but I'm pretty sure that it's just plug and play, no decoding necessary.

Sorry I forgot to ask . I assume from reading other post i need to by new usb socket and cable to allow android auto to work?

Yes, you will need a new USB Socket and the wire that connects the it to the head unit:
:link: Genuine authentic for HYUNDAI ELANTRA AD 2016 2017 USB IPOD AUX Jack Assembley OEM 96120F2010 96120 F2010| | - AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32965544314.html?spm=a2g0o.9042311.0.0.27424c4d2zfrnX)

As for installation: i think it took me about 2 hours and I hadn't ever done something like that before.
The video looks very good, but you will also need to take out the entire piece at the bottom which holds both the USB Socket and the shifter. I have an automatic and the shifter came out by simply pulling up on it. For this I also recommend changing into Drive if you also have and auto or 2nd gear if you have a manual so you can pull the plastic piece.

Thanks for all your help i have a few last questions. As Newby I've never done this before. I now have all the parts. However I'm a little confused with wiring loom.
- Which way should wires go long end in the end going to the new unit?
- How do i match wires up? I assume it's not just taking wire 3 and put it into 3 at the other end as they all seem to be same.
- i also is first diagram for cable on left or the right
Sorry if these questions are little daft
-
Good morning everyone. Still having a few issues have read a few forums but still a little confused. so before i take dashboard apart again to re try and fit the screen. I'm hoping for some further help
.
1) I'm lost about which cables need changing.

32 - Rear View Camera (Camera P/GND) - NOTHING
36 - Camera Detect : Ground (GM03) - NOTHING)
some say nothing? what does that mean? (you put the pin one end and leave it dangling)
Do i leave all the other connections empty as looking at some other post on forums linked from here they show most being connected.
Any help would be much appreciated
