2012 GD 1.4 petrol

Today I did a 348 miles road trip.

I zero'd all the computed on board figures, filled the tank to the brim, could see the petrol just below the flap.

Road was urban A roads for 12 miles, motorway for some 225 miles at 65mph on cruise control, save 2 motorway service comfort stops, the remaining was a mixuture of dual, averaging 55/65 mph, single, averaging 55 and the last 12 miles was single track, averaging 35/40, with lots of stops in passing places but no comfort stops after leaving motorway.

I'll brim the tank at my next fill up and see how my calculated equates to the computed.

Disappointed as I was expecting more mpg!!!!!!!!

  • 2021 KIA Niro 3 1.6 Petrol Hybrid
We visited friends in The Cotswolds on Thursday - a cold and wet 145 mile round trip 50/50 motorway and hilly A and B roads.

My hybrid KIA Niro averaged 64.2 mph on the day  according to the head unit which is usually within 2% of reality.

Nice, Alan, but I tend to average about 32 mph around the city, or I'd be getting lots of fines!

That's about the same economy as I get from my 2015 1.6 diesel, so I don't think you're doing so bad. If you look at  the real mpg section of Honest John website, the average for 2012 1.4 petrol is 42.2 mpg. Nobody managed better than 52.3.

Refilled tank to brim and using actual miles recorded between fills calculated 49.6 mpg.

My Corolla is averaging 40.4 mpg since I got it three years ago.
That's all types of conditions from short trips to the surf (almost daily, to longer urban trips, occasional highway to Brisbane (then in Brisbane traffic) and a very occasional longer trip.

Can record as high as 56 mpg on a pure highway trip.

My wifes old 1.5 Rolla used to do about the same, cheap as chips to run compared to my 3.0 Altezza which does about 20mpg on a trip and worse around town. So far the i30 hasnt been too bad, about 30mpg for a 1.6 with a way heavier body than the Rolla was, would be a lot better if it had better gearing for the motorway.
