Title: Removing front wiper arms in a 2020 i30
Post by: gpktm on March 17, 2022, 01:27:47
Hi all

Does anyone know if there is any special trick required to remove the front wiper arms? I had my windshield replaced and the installer messed up the wipers putting them back incorrectly so one of them is now hitting the pillar.  The installer is fully booked for at least one week now and is a bit rainy lately so I wanted to adjust them myself. I have done it before in my previous cars and I thought it would be pretty straightforward. I have removed the dust cap, removed the retaining nut, but after I tried to nudge and pull the wiper arm it doesn't come off. I didn't want to pull any harder in case there is some out of the ordinary procedure to remove the wiper arm.

Just a case of trying to 'rock' the arm off the spindle - patience & perseverance is key :)

If same fitting as my 2012 then there is there a round cover at the spindle?

Lever it off with flat blade screw driver and you will see a nut which you loosen and you can move the arm to desired position.

Exactly that's what I was trying to do. But it moves together with the spindle so I got kind of scared that I might mess up the mechanism.

I already did it. I have removed a few wiper arms already from previous cars but usually, after some nudging here and there the arm slides of the spindle, this is like stuck. And is very strange considering that the windshield guys took it off just two days ago to replace the windshield.

Can you put pictures of arm and the cover on/off as may make easier for someone to suggest what to do.

If it's that tight on the spline, try pulling the base of the arm upwards, then gently tap the exposed top of the spline with a hammer a few times to release it from its grip.

Doesn't the photo show up for you?

Seen photo now.

To me looks just like my set up.

I loosened/removed the nut and mine just pulled off with hardly any effort.

So do as Steve says and rock gently.

Squirt some wd40 to aid removal.

Or
Take back and ask them to sort it.

Any success on repositioning the arm?

I have this same problem.
It seems a slide puller, bearing style, is needed.

I'm putting them back with a good amount of grease.
