My 2015 1.6 diesel has recently begun to not start first time. The engine isn't cranking but there is a whirring sound as though the starter motor is spinning. If I stop and try again it usually starts as normal. I know the solenoid should push the starter pinion along the shaft splines to engage with the teeth on the flywheel, and the contact in the solenoid should close to energise the motor. Does anyone have experience in overhauling the starter motor? My thoughts are that it could be the pinion is sticking on the motor shaft, or the motor brushes are worn down. Any ideas?

Hi all My wife had some acrobatics yesterday as the driver's door of her Hyundai i30 Trophy 2012 petrol 2ltr would not unlock and for that matter does not work with either the key or remote. So we are stuck with a car that needs 61-year-old acrobatics to climb over to the passenger side to get out. What can I look for to help ourselves as being on disability pension means taking it to a workshop is out of the question at the moment. I am pretty handy and have once already replaced the inside door panel of the same-mentioned door. Any help from the brain's trust would be much appreciated.

Hello,
My stock head unit's sat nav broke down recently and I decided to try my hand at installing a Sony XAV-AX5000 into my 2015 i30 gd. I had been interested in using android auto for a while now and this seemed like the perfect excuse to go for it. My model was unfortunately not included in the Hyundai android auto rollout (2015 q4 and onward i30 models only).
I thought I'd share my journey through this process since there were some odd bits and pieces I found during installation (granted I'd never done anything like this before!).

G’day all, first time registered, long time lurker.
I’ve been doing little repairs on my parents I30, most have been easy fixes but I’ve got an issue which I’m trying to diagnose and couldn’t find an exact match in the search. My parents don’t have a remote and operate the central locking with a key, I’ve had to repair both doors on the passenger side but now when you turn the key only they drivers door opens. I’m assuming there’s no electrical signal coming from the drivers door and am hoping to find a relay or module inside the car. From there I could chuck the multimeter in and turn the lock with the key from the outside and see if here’s a signal.
Is there a smarter way to work out if the drivers door actuator...

Hello,
I bought a 2014 i30 Premium Hatchback and have been unable to get the Sat Nav to function. I believe that others have had the same issue, that the Sat Nav will not go past the 'Agree' button screen. I also get an error message shown when the device starts:
Error Out of memory Requested: 33554432 Cache: 0
I have had a look through the forum to try to find if anyone has solved this issue and it appears those who had a warranty had their head unit replaced.
I have tried resetting the unit with the reset function, also using the Volume control/CD eject reset and resetting to factory settings.
I also accessed Test Mode to see if i could solve the issue from there, b...

Hi all, I have an issue with my eps light, keep coming on and heavy steering. when it does I’ve done diagnostics, and it’s saying there is a problem with the steering column, I was wondering, if I purchase a steering column, does it need coding to my car? I have Hyundai i30 59 plate thanks 😊

Hi all,
My 2010 FD mk1 1.6 CRDi auto has recently developed a weird metallic clunking, the symptoms of which I've never experienced before.
It's a very low down deep sounding metallic clunk from the front offside/driver side, and only happens when the car is warm. If it's stone cold, there's no noise to be heard.
It happens almost exclusively when I take power or when I brake. Even just slight throttle application causes it to thunk, and braking is the same although not 100% of the time.
Here's what I know:
I've replaced lower wishbones and bushes Replaced anti roll bar drop links Replaced shock absorbers and strut tops/bearings Replaced ball joints Steering ...

The OEM head unit in our FD has some silly "Initial Volume" setting, I find no matter what we seem to set it to it is not right the next time the car is used. Is there any way to disable the initial volume so that it just starts at the same volume it was shut down like every other radio I've used?
