Hi all, i was wondering if any of you had managed to fit on their GD aftermarket xenon lights and led sidelights, if so have you got any links of it? Do i need any special adapters for the bulb? Would i get any warning on my dash? I'm still learning about my GD as i had it nearly 2 years but never done anything to it apart from keeping it clean, aftermarket android unit and wind deflectors.

I dont think many people are doing hid's since leds are much easier to install, as for the sidelights any quality led should so the job.

As for headlights do note that installing anything other than halogen bulbs in the standard light housing is illegal, though if you're willing to risk it something like these 2x Philips LED Headlight Kit H7 6000LM High/Low Beam Replace Xenon Halogen Globe | eBay would be suitable, you will need adaptors to fit the low beam lights where as the high beam secures with the factory sprig clip.

You would also need to extend or change the dust caps on the light housings to allow room for the extra length of the LED bulbs.

Is a bit sketchy at best for the seller to have in their listing that those LED bulb provide 'A street legal driving beam..." - which is completely untrue. With even Navra clearly stating that all their LED kits are off-road legal only.

Just curious @CraigB have you tried these bulbs or similar before?  I only ask I think from reading your posts you were a Navra man yourself?  Not that i think they'd be anything like the 6000 lumens they state - but thats far too much to have in your low beams - and courting a Police check.

I did try some cheapies in my PD - had to mod some adapters to fit - alas the low beams are projectors and very hard to use with LEDs - but I ended up removing after short period as they were grossly inferior to one of the +125% etc halogens. Was an epic PITA for no benefit at all.

That said I did find that getting LEDs to replace the high beam HB3's did make a big difference - again went with mid-range priced imports but they had a massive improvement over the halogens.

As we live rural and fitting a LED bar is very hard on the PD (due to radar sensor behind the badge on front, which is only real place to fit & lack of rigid secure location) - so this was well worth it - but the low beams were a flop!

Agree, the quality of the LED would affect results but I also read an article which explained why the vast majority of LED bulbs give very bad results in projector style light housings. Alas can't find it again - but it stated that LED bulb designs had to be optimisted for projector housings to get the BEST results. Sure you could use regular LED bulbs and might find ok - but a lot of light output would be wasted from these.

Ah yes, JW Speaker are known for quality LED bulbs - as you have a PD as well did you go with the PROJECTOR LENS OPTIMISED ones or the regular bulbs?

Here's another example by Stedi of H7 bulbs that are designed specifically for the issues that regular LEDs cause in projector housings:

You'll notice with both designs the LED diodes are always on one side of the bulb, slightly angled outwards - IIRC this is due to the internal design of the projector housings - the article I saw tore one of these down and showed where the mirrors were internally, basically you wanted the light to be hitting the bottom 1/2 of the housing - the light that went up was wasted.

Ah found a brochure for Navra's specialised projector bulbs - you'll see on page 4 of it it shows how the internals of projector housings work - the internal shutter stops a lot of LED bulbs from working properly:

Got the direct fit ones to fit in with the dust cap on

I do notice a dead spot in the beam just infront of the car i assume thats from how far the leds sit in their case.

I personally have the JW Speaker brand in my own vehicle, though these Lightfox/Philips are very similar, the 6000 lumen is per pair, 3000 lumen each.

I had a search for the JW Speaker brand but couldn't find the original listing I'd used before, they are great quality and 1800 lumen each, I use them in the high and low beams.

What needs to be replicated is the bulb similarity, if the LED's don't have the end cap design like that of a halogen then they simply wont function with the correct cut off line.

Both the LED bulb brands mentioned also have the ability for the light stem to be rotated which is critical for horizontal beam alignment.
