Title: Limp mode sorta problem.
Post by: Mazt3r on May 29, 2022, 20:30:32
Hi guys  :goodjob2:

New here on the forum however long time lurker.

Forgive me if this problem has been asked before but I'm a little frustrated.
So i have a 2015 Hyundai i30 1.6 crdi, great great car. However. The other day when i was on my way home i turned a corner and went into a sort of limp mode, i say sort of because it gets limited to 4000rpm, and not 3000rpm as i have seen mentioned Alot on this forum.
I had a tester on it and it said i had a p0101 (mass airflow sensor) and a p0113 (IAT Sensor problem) i thought ok and went to look at them. The mass airflow sensor is clean as a whistle same with the air filter. And after some searching i found that the two units are probably built together. Anyhow i erased the codes and started the car up. No new codes but still no power at all and limp mode activated.

I then disconnected the batteri for an hour because this has worked on other cars. But to no success. I then took it for a drive while getting live data from the obd port.
The IAT reads the temperatur pretty close to outside temps.
And the mass airflow sensor is at 8-9 grams in idle.

Still i can't get out of limp mode.
Any suggestions would be enormously appreciated.

Try checking the fuel filter.
Had this issue and that was the cause.
Couldn't get it to work so disabled it.

Update time. And it's not good.  :crazy1:

I changed the mass airflow sensor and the fuel filter but absolutely nothing has changed. I'm still Limited to 4k rpm and i have no power at all. I hear no turbo spool and engine load is 100% almost as soon as I hit the gas.
Anybody got any advice ?  :crazy2:

So even more news. I had a buddy connect his obd computer today from a mechanic bigger than the one I got. He found a nox sensor error in the particle filter. And the intake house after the turbo gets sucked flat is if there is vacuum in there. From this I'll guess that either particle filter is fully clogged or turbo has gone.

I think I found the problem.

Today when i removed the IAT Sensor everything is covered in soot i think maybe the intake manifold is completely clogged and that the car can't breathe. I'll take it in to get cleaned maybe tomorrow

Update. So this is weird.

I have had no codes thrown by the car for a long time. Took it to a mechanic. His diagnosis. Intercooler full of half a litre of oil so he thinks it's a blown/stuck turbo.

Just think it's weird i get no codes from that.
Should i believe him and get the turbo changed or should I question it.  I'm a little at a loss.

Are you able to verify the oil is there? That would be a start in trust.

I agree. I'm gonna take it to where i bought it and get a second opinion there. Just a shame. A new turbo fitted is gonna be $2-3k

Update: turbo is seized completely welded together. I took it to another shop and they showed me when they had it disassembled so it's a new turbo  :(
