Yes it's probably right.

I traveled to UK & Europe in the '70's. Nice place to visit, but I don't understand how so many people live in such an inhospitible part of the planet. Lakes freeze, pipes burst, salt on the roads to rust your car etc.

In Oz, we have droughts, flies, Julia Gillard & lots of heat, especially heat. If you can't stand the heat ..........

I'd love to go down under for a couple of months, but wouldn't want to stay any longer than that, especially if the heat is as described in the article and from experiences recounted on our forum.

What doesn't surprise me, is the mention of living costs. Sure, fuel looks to be around half the price we pay here and resale prices on cars seems far far better, but the basics seem to be more expensive.

Most British immigrants now seem to go to the Mainland (after the 2nd world war a lot came to Tasmania)  Tasmania definitely has a more temperate climate than most of the mainland and most Brits would feel quite at home.. But with less snow and dismal rainy days.

Real estate prices are lower in Tassie and some living costs are cheaper too..

Unemployment is similar to the mainland at a bit over 5% (which is not bad in the current economic climate) but jobs are still hard to come by particularly if you are not a local..

So, I guess what I am trying to say if if Brits came to Tassie and could find a job they liked they would probably stay (and be happy)

We're just evening up the percentages. 100% went to Tassie initially.
