HI All,

 I have a Hyundai i30 2008 diesel hatchback. The problem is at front suspension or steering column area. Noise while driving at potholes or speed bumps. Noise present from 3 years. passes MOT and dealer has checked thrice and never able to find it. I have spent nearly 400£ behind it and not been able to fix. Can anyone please advice what to do? I am really annoyed as car is not under warranty but problem present since the car was under warranty. Dealer not able to fix it but know there is a problem. Replaced drop links three times but didn’t help.

Can anyone suggest what to do?

All I can suggest is for you to take the car to a suspension specialist, they'll be more thorough at finding the problem, a report from them would also be the evidence needed to get Hyundai to extend their warranty service for you if it happens to be the same unsolved issue you have complained about previously.

No description of the noise makes it hard to suggest anything, however I have two high mileage i30 and both start to groan in the front end after driven  a while, I'm thinking stabiliser bushes.

one has an annoying rack rattle at slow speeds and rough roads, which could be anywhere in the steering from rack tp column.


My hatch had lots of knocking noises in its rear suspension, just put new shocks in and all gone, so worn shocks can knock too.

TW, the rack rattle would just be that worn knuckle in the steering column which is a cheapish part recently discussed in several threads on here. Labour is not cheap but you seem capable of doing that.

My 2009 FD had a groan type noise also, it sounded like something dry that shouldn't have been.

My mechanic found the bolts holding the engine subframe in needed tightening. Not sure if this terminology is correct, it is what he told me.

Fixed the problem though :-)

We had our fixed by hyundai as a recall, we also had a lesser knocking which I fixed myself, which were the front and rear suspension drop links.

Make sure your car has had the recall, because ours was crashing loud at mild bumps and pot holes too! And was eating OSF tyres. We took it to Hyundai whilst was still under warranty and could not find a fault. And a good while after the warranty had expired we had a recall and suspension/ S rack was fixed for free.

Has anyone got the reference/date for this recall?  I've also spent in excess of £400 trying to fix it myself, and I don't trust my local dealer to find it.
