I've been seeing some unusual behaviour from the steering wheel controls recently. Both for the CC and Audio.

When repatedly depressing the Vol it changed the radio statio and with the CC sometimes set won't set, repeatly pushing decel diengages and also same with pressing res or accel does the same.

Anyone else out there with similar issues and a fix?
I'm wondering since both sides are playing up this is going to be a clock spring issue?

Thoughts

Definitely sounds like a clock spring issue. Maybe some grit has got in there "shorting" out the contacts periodically.

A man of your calibre would be able to strip it down and clean things up with a bit of metho or similar as a first fix attempt maybe?  :undecided:

Considering the Air bag plugs into this too, probably not. I do have a spare. I think once it completely craps out then I'll do a steering overhaul if I got to remove all that. Spare un worn leather steering wheel gathering dust waiting for install

The clock spring is only for the air bag. Fairly sure you will find a separate loom for radio and cruise etc.
Pull the battery -ve off before you remove the steering wheel, then disconnect the airbag before you start to play with  the switches.

unfortunately not. For sure there's a seperate loom but it plugs into the clock spring.

I'm thinking both controls failing at the same time or exhibiting similar behaviour , suggests clockspring as it's a common point.

I guess I'm Robinson Crusoe on this one?

Was trying to go back into the memory bank.
Give me an hour or so I'll go down to the spare bin shed 2 thing with a multimeter.

Mine's generally corrupted.

Why so far? Don't you keep it handy?

Some symbolism in the Peter mug? RIP  :)

Ok revise above statement, was forgetting the rear plug.

So could be the clock spring, but check the neg (green wire, I think) which will be joined in the wheel. It is common to several functions.

If you go hunting for another spring, there are three setups. The Plug is different on the back, to suit active and non active st wheels.

Potentially although I expect it's internal, wear & tear , heat etc.

I expect something out of this will fit.

He was my hero too. Met Dick Johnson a couple of times, he was in the trade in Brissy.

The difference in the clock spring is that 8 pin socket you display. One that I have has only 6 pins, for steering wheel with CC only.

If you swap like for like should be ok. Air bag connection is the same on all.

Back to the stolen GD  Cheers G

Same, I had a photo of Big Dick holding my first born in 1999. genuine guy, also met Steve and had a track day with him at Stapylton on a private track.

Who stole it? Do you need a hand finding it?

Been found  :link: Stolen & Recovered

obvious who stole it  .... the genius family; they scratched their names on the windows.

Don't know why the cops bothered with the finger print powder.

Got bored enough to mess with the wheel.
Had a spare wheel which I got last year  to replace my worn leather,
Had the wheel fascia from the wagon I pulled out complete with buttons.\
Had a 41000K clock spring,

Some plastic primer, silver paint, clear coat

Looks refreshed, although paint colour ended being a little light, but happy to say the buttons are now working well again.

I'm calling the clock spring was the culprit.

hard to get an idea of colour with flash and without but the greyer colour is probably most accurate(no flash) New paint is a lighter silver.
