New problem which I've had a quick chat with @nzenigma but has me stumped.

brand new KYBs fitted, by me so I could have make an error.

When turning, and it can be heard only when parking so the noise levels are down, the RHS strut is making creaking binding noises , lock to lock as if the htat is not free.

It is very stiff to turn by hand off the vehicle and in comparison to a factory original unit I have assembled , significantly harder too.

just can't work out what is happening as the mount rests on a bearing. Should be impossible to bind up unless that bearing fails.
I've since swapped over the entire top assembly off the other Factory unit I had and same result.

Unless I have badly misalligned the spring seat to bearing, all I can think of.

gary is thinking possible out of spec KYB unit.

Probably not many who have done this on their cars but here's some images of the original parts involved removed . maybe there is some telltale signs I have not picked up on ? @cruiserfield

Mate, The area where it is binding is obvious, worse than I imagined. It looks like a shim/ washer/ spacer could be missing.
I got the impression the new strut was ok at first? If so, could suggested spacer have disintegrated?
Its hard to reassemble a strut incorrectly and the HY top was also binding so I don't think it is your fault.  YET!

yes.

Try to measure good and bad struts with a vernier gauge.

May have found a little clue although I still don't quite understand. I popped both strut caps off to look at the threads exposed on both shafts and they're the same. SO that tells me the hat is lined up and screwed down right.

Given the paint is rubbed off where the shroud sits I went to the offending strut and I can't slide it down the shaft so suggests it's pinched. Go to the left unit and I can slide that one without much effort.

SO next attempt I'll refit and slide that  shroud well clear try reassembly like that

And , now that theory is shot because I have 1 remaining factory strut unit untouched and I can't pull that shroud down :crazy1:

OK DO THIS:

On the first night of the waxing moon, gather the following ingredients:
a square of black cloth a little larger than your hand.
 1 tablespoon of curry
 1 tablespoon of dill
1 tablespoon of vervain
1 tablespoon powdered ginger
1 consecrated black candle paper and black ink pen
1 black string, knotted nine times

On paper, write the full name and birth date (if known) of the person who has cursed you. Place the paper in the center of the bag. One at a time, add the herbs, covering the slip of paper. Next, take the lit candle  and drip 5-10 drops of wax over the paper and herbs.
Visualize the person who has cursed you and say their name aloud three times while tying the bag shut with the knotted  string.
The final step is to bury the bag someplace on the property of the person who cursed you. The bag must remain  there undisturbed until the next waxing moon. At that time, dig up the bag and burn the contents.
This will weaken that  person's power (usually until the night of the full moon) and the curse
