hi guys,
i have had my car now for 1yr and a half. after say 1yr of the radio working fine i drove to work one day with radio reception then when going home that same day i had no reception at all. unfortunately the radio only has a 3 yr warranty unlike the car which is 5 yrs. i have taken the head unit out and the antenna is still in the unit properly. today i tried a spare antenna i had in my garage and still nothing.
the radio still works fine with connecting to my iphone and playing music and i can make and receive phone calls its just the radio that no longer works.
has any one had this same thing happen to them or know what my problem could be please
TIA

I can't help much but I'd suggest putting the question forward to Hyundai as to whether they would still honour the warranty, my own GD01 head unit packed itself in last year just before warranty ran out which was lucky in my case but there has been reports about the web of reliability issues with these cartronics units, they're rubbish imo :disapp:

could be the antenna amplifier is out. this is not in the head unit so could get it in the warranty.

Potentially, it is in the FD series. If it has power going to the antenna assembly that would be a giveaway

I wonder if a firmware upgrade may fix  or is there a reset option?  Both Am and FM dead?

I don't know. I'm being somewhat presumptious here as this appears to be software driven like a lot of things these days.

So, could something be corrupted to stop the tuner section working? Possibly

What model head unit? GD-01?

I'm googling away with some interest looking at the firmware pages and reading the bug fixes.

maybe you could do this and post up what version at least.

How   to   display   the   firmware   version   installed   in   the   audio:
1.   Press   SETUP   button.
2.   Tap   GENERAL   then   ABOUT   on   the   audios'   LCD   panel.

A couple of threads about issues, not necessarily yours though.

Playing with the firmware if it goes wrong, will likely brick the device

There are units out here for a $200 used

Well , I don't know if it helps.  I'm not sure I'm helping myself here but it's broken so not much to lose except the rest of the functionality..

I see this

Firmware   Version:   V2.15T,
Image   Version:   G1.56,
Bluetooth   Version:   B113

So looks like there is a firmware version higher than current.

http://www.cartronics.net.au/uploads/documents/hyundai/33_1463117417_Firmware%20Solutions%20Gen%202%20Audio.pdf

This appears to be the file. If you open it up you'll see v215, B113 and G156

http://www.cartronics.net.au/uploads/firmware_files/1463101316_V2.5T.zip

The manual has the procedure, If you're going to have a go then read all of it first as it appears there are three stages to it to load the three files but I think just the firmware would do.

Do so at your own risk!

Good luck

that's why they have instructions. So long as they are followed exactly and power is not interrupted during the process it should be fine.

Hi , I'm probably a bit late contributing to this topic but for what its worth...
I recently bought a 2013 I30 CRDi Active and found when I brought it home the radio didn't receive anything AM or FM.  The radio just emitted static no matter what frequency was selected, USB and Bluetooth audio both worked fine.  It had been suggested that the antenna has an amplifier in it and like all electronic devices might have failed.  Reluctant to pull out hood lining to get to the antenna base, I decided to attack the radio end first and proceeded to remove the radio from the dash. with the radio still connected and held in my hand I first re-seated the antenna cable in the radio and then powered it up.
No change in the radio , still no signal. Next I removed the car antenna cable and inserted a length of hookup wire ( will work as an antenna)  into the antenna socket and checked the radio again. Still nothing, however this did eliminated the issue being in powered antenna. So my issue was in fact in the radio. Next I gave the radio a standard technicians thump on top and it burst into life. tapping the body of the radio would make the signal come and go. I then put the radio on the bench and stripped it apart and found the tuner module very sensitive to touch.
I removed the tuner module re soldered the connections on the IC inside and reassembled the radio. I have since reinstalled the unit in my car and so far no more issues, even after it endured several technician thumps. hope this is of some help to someone.

Nice job. People tend to forget that even solid state tech is subject to environmental degradation such as varying temperature, mechanical stress, etc.

Sure Sure, I am a technician fortunately for me. I was also lucky I could bump the radio into proper operation intermittently.  You can still do your own trouble shooting without paying anyone.
The trick is to break any problem into smaller parts. Not knowing where to start is often the difficult part.

Good advice, unfortunately when I try and fix something I only get to the 1st part.. breaking the problem. ..

The famous half-split rule has served me well for almost 40 years. :D

Oh, we all break things, it's part of learning, being able to fix it again come with experience.

Oh and solid state tech is rife with issues , especially since the ROHS standards came in where  they removed lead from solder, I'm pretty sure lead free solder is still not allowed in medical equipment .

Yes and no. The Sn-Ag-Cu mix has no Pb and is actually more resilient for thermal cycling. It's just a matter of choosing the solder you use for the right application.
