Does anyone know if it is possible to switch over from the traditional style of the front turning indicator (in the headlight unit of SR and below) and integrate it with the DRL (on the premium models only). I'm just wondering if the existing DRL will need to be swapped out as well.

There have been a few noises about doing this mentioned on the site, but I don't recall anyone giving a definitive answer yet. You might have to be the guinea pig.   :winker:

Would that still be legal though ?
I thought turning indicators had to be amber, the DRL would be white wouldn't it ?
Or have I missed the point here.

There are already lots of examples of white DRLs that switch to amber blinking. I think eBay would have some as an aftermarket option. I doubt the PD has that type from the factory, though.

I'd say mshk99 is meaning to have the DRL's converted to amber indicators, and yes they would be illegal in Australia even if they were amber as placement height would be incorrect and visibility would be poor...instant red sticker  but they would look cool :)

Doesn't Elena's Premium SR do that Gonz. My non-prem doesn't but the Prem does!  :undecided:

No, I think he just means how easy is it to convert the DRLs on the base SR to the dual purpose ones on the Prem!

Well, I don't know. Any time they've been going, I've been either inside it or in a different state! :crazy1:

Yes that's what I meant, SR Premium DRLs are dual purpose.

If the base models have the static DRLs and the blinkers are separate elements, there's no reason you can't use the 'flash' ones and do some cabling to reroute the blinker signal to the new DRLs. I would do it if I were in your shoes with your level of enthusiasm but it depends on your level of confidence with doing up the connections. :winker:

I like adaptations that are reversible, so I'd probably build up new adaptor harnesses, or more likely, to save a few dollars (yes, ladies and gentlemen), just tap into connector pins the way I have with my latest LED mod.

Confirmed. I just took the PD for a short drive and remembered to check the indicator before stopping. Yes, it blinks amber/off when not doing the white DRL thing.

This thread has me thinking: why not just turn our indicators into DRLS?

Thanks! Would you be able to give some tips on how to access/ wire up the pins for the indicators and the DRL?

Gonz, do you also have the standard indicators inside the headlight housing as well...or just the DRL/indicators?

Well, not having access to the PD SR Premium, I can describe the process from first principles only.

1. Get the DRLs for the Premium model. Test probe their connectors to locate which pin receives the constant 12V for DRL function (D) and which receives the turn indicator voltage (I).

2. Connect ignition fed lines to pins D.

3. Remove your existing indicator bulbs, steal the feeds to their bases and divert them via new lengths of wire to pins I.

That's it without looking at it for you. You can send me a scan of the relevant schematic pages in your manual but I doubt they'll add much value. If you're really not confident, remove and photograph the connector to the back of one of your current turn indicators and I can talk you through more from there. :victory:
