Title: Double Din in 2008 model
Post by: ryangus on January 06, 2017, 10:57:36
Anyone done this?  I assume a new fascia like this - :link: Hyundai i30 08-11 Manual Double Din car stereo facia fascia kit dash panel trim | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hyundai-i30-08-11-Manual-Double-Din-car-stereo-facia-fascia-kit-dash-panel-trim-/321791324269?hash=item4aec41f06d:g:MsIAAOSwZQRYbrfP) - would be required?

Yep. Pretty sure there's at least one pictorial how to on here somewhere. Have a browse around the section on electrical mods or words to that effect.

I've thought about doing this myself. Make sure you get the right version for the AC controls, and note the majority of these don't allow for the storage box on the dash above they have a blanking plate.

For this reason if I ever do it, I'll probably have to go for the dremel and frame/mount method like some users here have. Too bad that pioneer mounting is hard to find these days!

I actually bought this back in 2013 or so. It's not a great fit in terms of lining up with the rest of the dash as it was designed for LHD. I'm installing a double din into it tomorrow after having a single DIN in it for the past few years. Make sure you get a proper mounting bracket with it, as I feel like that is going to make a difference. Either way, I'll update this thread within a day or two.

I'll keep an eye on this.  I'm very tempting to go the chop on my existing fascia.  This might help me decide!

So, due to the insane heat, I finally got around to it. I bought an alpine INE-W960A, which is alright but I would probably lean towards something else. Nothing major, just small annoyances here and there. But that is not the point of this thread.

Install itself was easy in regards to wiring, I had an adaptor that did most of the work for me including amplifier wiring. The only thing I needed to do was the handbrake signal which was luckily easily bypassed by grounding the wire from the stereo. GPS and Bluetooth install were easy too, both are nicely secured under the steering wheel area. The dash itself was a bit of a pain. As I mentioned earlier its not the best fit and it was very very tight trying to get things lined up.

I did not receive a new mounting bracket from the seller I bought it from years ago, so i recycled the factory bracket. If i used it the right way up (i.e. left on left and right on right) the stereo sat too low and I couldn't get the trim piece back on at all. If I swapped the left and right brackets and made them upside down (you'll see what I mean when you go to do it) then it fit in terms of orientation and I could get the dash back on but the stereo sticks out a bit. So, try and get the mounting brackets as they will make the install look so much clearer.

You can see how it sticks out at the top a bit.  In my opinion, go with the cutting option and if anything, you should be able to pick up a spare trim piece from a wreckers or something.

Nice work, I did think of getting a double din installed in my 2010 but i might instead just install a rear view mirror unit with gps, rear view camera and android from ebay, I asked an installer about it and he quoted me around $1000 with a head unit without Satnav!!

Evetually I'll get 2DIN myself, just not in a hurry. When I do I'll seek something based on an Android tablet where I can install my own nav and entertainment apps. :victory:
