Title: 2011 FD SLX CRDi
Post by: dauntless on July 05, 2018, 02:19:51
Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago I picked up this 2011 FD SLX CRDi, 5 speed manual.

It was a one owner country car, always dealer serviced and garaged, and has 142,000km.

So far I've done:
Oil change; Penrite HPR Diesel 10w-40
Gearbox oil; Penrite Pro Gear 75w-85
Removed towbar
Will do fuel filter and coolant on the weekend.

Current issues:
Burning oil smell. Seems to be coming from the engine bay. I had a fairly good look and can't see any leaks, not sure what could cause it?
Engine vibration at 1800-2000rpm. Did some research and this seems common. I think I'll put up with it until I can be bothered fitting an Exedy clutch.

Plans:
Replace foglight bulbs
Neatly trim the rear bumper where it was hacked up for the towbar
Clean out EGR/intake
Rear swaybar: Would like the 21mm USDM bar if possible?
Swaybar bushes and endlinks
Springs: 20mm Eibach?
Rear camber correction: Hardrace adjustable arms?
Intake: Thinking a pod filter with custom ECU mounting. Would be more for noise than power, maybe not worth the effort.
17x7 wheels w/ 225/45R17 tyres
Exhaust: 2.5" from downpipe back, 100CPI cat w/ no mufflers
Tune + EGR delete

I'd assumed yellow foggies are the standard in Europe but that Aus standards dictate white. Am I wrong?

We get a lot of fog where I live, and I find yellow fog lights do make it easier to see.

ADR 50/00 states:
" The colour of the light emitted by the front fog lamp shall be either white or selective yellow by choice of the applicant.  The selective yellow colour, if any, of the beam may be obtained either by the colour of the light source or by the lens of the front fog lamp or by any other suitable means." Also I've seen yellow fog lights at Supercheap.

In any case, I've had them on other cars and never been pulled over.

A while back I bought a set of 17s off a 2013 Santa Fe, but unfortunately they don't clear the brake caliper.

I'm now looking at these, the listing says they're off an i30 but I've never seen them before. Anyone know which model they're off, and if they'll fit an FD?

Thanks!

EDIT: Looks like they're also off a Santa Fe, makes me wonder if they will fit or not. They're certainly not Santa Fe spec tyres. Maybe there's more clearance on the back of the spokes, or maybe later i30s have different brakes, and that's what they clear?

I have a set in the garage just waiting for the tyres to wear down on the current set.

They look good. You know where I could get a set? Haven't found much on eBay or Gumtree at the moment. There's a set on eBay but they have a bit of damage.

Yeah I do, only listed them for sale earlier today:

17x7s with 225/45R17 Hankooks fitted, fairly sure they're from a 2017 i30 Premium. Handling and grip is much better, ride and harshness barely affected. Overall very happy with the improvement.

Also, the car just ticked over 180,000km.
