Hard to say whether it was the tyres only, or the shock absorbers only, or interaction between the two. The tyres were fitted end of January, and the tyres they replaced had worn nice and even, so no reason to think the rear tracking was out. The MoT was 5 months later. by which time the car had done about another 10,000 miles, and this 'thrumming' sound had progressively got louder. I waited until after MoT to fix it in case they found other test failures that made it uneconomic to repair. That's when the tester showed me the scalloping on rear tyres and suggested it could be worn shocks and/or bad tyres.
I replaced the shockers as that's a reasonably cheap and easy job, and the car had done 150,000 miles on the originals. The 'thrumming' sound went away but it didn't stop the rear tyres wearing away on the inner edge. After another 30,000 miles I replaced them after all the inner blocks of tread had scrubbed off, but the tread across the rest of the tyres was hardly worn.
The Goodyears that are now on the car have done about 20,000 miles and are wearing quite evenly, with no excessive wear on either the inner or outer shoulders. Recently had the tracking checked, and whilst the rear alignment isn't perfect, it is within the green tolerance band. I also had the Ventus Prime 3 on the front wheels and they were fine.
