Hey guys. So I am a Canadian living in Germany  (weird I know) so my work gave me a 2012 i30  diesel. So when I am driving on the highway I notice that the check engine light is flashing. But I have no loss of power. Or do doesn't make any weird noises. So I pull over shut it of pull the key out. Put key back in. Shake key around a bit and start it. And the light is out. And won't come on for a day or two. Depending how many times I shut the car off.  I thought I read somewhere that sometimes and ignition sensor will set the check engine light off but I can't remember where I read it. Any ideas?

Do you know anyone with an OBD scan tool, that would quickly give you the answer of what sensor is being set off.

If no OBD tool handy then call into a local mechanic or Hyundai service centre and they should be able to diagnose the fault for you.

Does it have a DPF? have you read the owners manual?

When the malfunction indicator
light is blinks, it may stop blinking
after driving the vehicle at more
than 60km/h (37 mph) or at more
than second gear with 1500 ~ 2000
engine rpm for a certain time (for
about 25 minutes).
If the malfunction indicator light
continues to be blinked in spite of
the procedure, please visit an
authorised HYUNDAI dealer and
then check the DPF system.
If you continue to drive with the
malfunction indicator light blinking
for a long time, the DPF system can
be damaged and fuel consumption
can be worsen.

Diesel Particulate Filter (if equipped)
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system
removes the soot emitted from the
vehicle.
Unlike a disposable air filter, the DPF
system automatically burns (oxidizes)
and removes the accumulated soot
according to the driving condition. In
other words, the active burning by engine
control system and high exhaust gas
temperature caused by normal/high driving
condition burns and removes the
accumulated soot.
However, if the vehicle continues to be
driven at low speed for long time, the
accumulated soot may not be automatically
removed because of low exhaust
gas temperature. In this particular case,
the amount of soot is out of detection
limit, the soot oxidation process by
engine control system may not happen
and the malfunction indicator light may
blink.
When the malfunction indicator light
blinks, it may stop blinking by driving the
vehicle at more than 60km/h (37 mph) or
at more than second gear with 1500 ~
2000 engine rpm for a certain time (for
about 25 minutes).

please visit an authorised

CAUTION - Diesel Fuel
(if equipped with DPF)
It is recommended to use the regulated
automotive diesel fuel for
diesel vehicle equipped with the
DPF system.
If you use diesel fuel including high
sulfur (more than 50 ppm sulfur)
and unspecified additives, it can
cause the DPF system to be damaged
and white smoke can be
