SX!!!???? *bites tongue*  ;) ) and was bailed up for 15 mins talking to a guy who was interested in buying an i30. He was rather excited about all the good press the car had been receiving, and was really keen on the diesel.
I think crdi models have proven to be a massive draw card for the i30, and i can only praise it. who knows, i might be up for a diesel version of the i30 series II when it comes out (hope it comes in pink!).

Tim.

Don't think so m8 as diesel is selling for $1.82.9 and unlead $1.52.9 most people don't know how to work out fuel economy and they just look at difference in price at the pump so i don't expect the CRDi to keep selling big #'s.
just a fact of life.
cheers

Hi Again Python,

The diesel is a bit noisy when it is cold (particularly outside the car) but once its warmed up it's barely audible under normal acceleration. "Someone" I know got up to an indicated 160kph the other day while passing 2 x B-double (really long trucks)  and it was still fairly quiet..

Haven't driven a 2.0 petrol i30 but would be surprised if the diesel is any noisier on the highway.

Cheers,

Dazz

i drove ford everest diesel and my wife always complaint about the noisy level a diesel can get. when i said i wanted to buy her a diesel i30, she really thinks the diesel engine in hyundai might be as noisy or even worst (brand compare) than ford, hence ask me why save fuel cost and let her suffer!

ford everest MPV diesel giving about 10L/km and i30 7.6L/km... my wife said driving i30 make more sense??

Hey python youre confusing me... If your i30 is a diesel how come you're using 7.6 ltrs per 100km? compared to our 4.5 -5.5 experiences!

Dazzler, as i read it Python would like a i30 diesel but his whife did not want the diesel noise so he got petrol, also he was worried about the effects of black smoke on the enviroment.
Python no smoke at all from my i30. i have had friends follow me and coment you would not know it was a diesel as no smoke

I only ever see a puff of smoke under heavy (ie 4000rpm) acceleration, I'll look in the rearview and see a very faint puff behind me

Yes Tim,
I have heard it on good authority that Hyundai is considering bringing the SR badge out in a 2.0 crdi. It is the same motor as the 2.0 crdi used in the KIA Sportage and the same motor soon to be available in the Deisel sonata. Should be a little ripper!

Hi Eyma...

We meet again.. The couple of bits I've read on the 2.0 Crdi (from UK) is that it's not worth the extra $$$ over the 1.6 economy not as good and pushes the i30's dynamics a bit hard!

There is no plans to bring the 2.0l crdi out to Australia hyundai have bigger things on there mind atm with the i10 and i20 i have heard wispers maybe an sr 1.6 but who knows, i have not had to many people asking about the 2.0Lcrdi but who knows what the future holds but i would not be counting on seeing it any time in the next 2-3 years personally i dont think we need the 2.0 here not now any ways the sales would be minimal most would go for the 1.6 for the economy and the price tag in saying that if the 2.0 crdi was available i would have got one over the 1.6 just for shits and giggles

I'm glad the diesel won this comparisson. A short story of my own: once myself and two other memebers of hyundaiclub organised a drag race for documentary reasons. Me 1.6crdi 115hp, My friend with 1.6petrol 122hp, my other friend 1.4petrol 109hp. We tried 4 times,we will do the test again in perfect conditions but the results were, every run, 1st me, a car behind was the 1.6,and at the rear door was the front bumper of the 1.4

The black smoke is seen in diesel cars, but mostly in diesels which have been driven a lot with underrevving (changing gears before the turbo kicks in) that's why it is best to change at about 2500rpm. i never ,or at least try, change over 4000rpm

as far as fuel economy goes mine changes often, now is 6%, but usually i get 7.5% because the traffic in bucharest is hardcore, and  it is getting colder. and on long rides ,believe it or not i got 3.2%  * we calculate here in % for example 6 liters / 100km

if anyone says the i30 crdi is noisy, call a friend with a skoda,vw,audi, ford, opel, seat tdi tdci cdti and pull them next to the i30..

Lakes how quickly times change... We have just returned from QLD where the average price we paid for ULP was $0.92.9 - Yet Diesel was still selling for $1.45.9 ... Doing the math, the diesel would need to average about 3xL100K just to be cost comparable on fuel... At the moment (at least last week in QLD) diesels were not only more expensive to buy, but also more expensive to run.

It's a quirky world at the moment!

I spotted diesel for as low 127.9 c in the suburbs yesterday. I'm in Melbourne.  But in the city itself stations are still selling as high as 135.9 c
