Congrats Meeha!

I just ordered new tripple glazed argon filled windows, 22 of them. Cost 1/7 of what the house did! (And about a third of replacing them with new double glaze). Gonna be a tough year next year.

Wise long term investment though. Love our double glazing. The noise reduction as much as the heat insulation.  Do the argon filled windows help with that as well?

Why are they cheaper than double glazed?

@Dazzler two glaze here is generally to hinged frames with one pane of glass in each. The tree glazed ones are casettes usually filled with argon instead of air. My new ones are PVC also, the old ones are wood(which requires a lot of time maintaining, painting and regrouting)

Should help a lot with heat insulation, my current windows suck the heat right out, there in bad condition and the two glass panes are thin (2mm) old panes. The new are 4mm. The new windows(.9u) have 1/3-1/5th of the u-value of my old windows(3-5u) depending on the condition of the old ones.
I calculated to save 2-4mwh anually, but will know by next december, hard to know what is lost through windows compared to the rest of the house. So they should pay for themselves before they need replacing again. Mostly changing them because they need to either be completly renovated or replaced, and it was cheaper to replace. (And the climate indoors should improve too).

@xiziz

Thanks for that. I am so glad we went for double glazing with our house. Over here generally (like ours) double glazed windows are made out of powder coated aluminium with two panes of glass with air in between. The glass doesn't look very thick but must be fairly strong as we had had quite a few largish birds (Crows/Ravens) crash into them fighting their own reflections without breakage.  :Touch:

At here we have lots of triple glazes with individual wooden panes, inner and outer panes hinged to the frame, and the middle pane hinged to the inner one so the whole package can be opened for cleaning. There are also rubber seals between them to make it virtually airtight.

However, it's very common to have some small holes in those panes in order to provide some air ventilation from outside to inside. We have had many examples of house climate problems regarding bad ventilation design, having a powerful ventilation fan sucking air out but forgetting to think where do you get the replacement air, leading to moisture and mold problems in case the replacement happens to come thru small gaps near ground level. Those small holes in window panes are up enough from the ground in order to prevent that.

So. If your plane was delayed would that put you behind the eight ball?

Look what I found on page two!

We got our first real snow here 10-12cm, I got lucky and drove around all of Värmland in it falling for 5 hours today, 350km small windy roads. New winter tyres handles it well, much better than my old kumos. Filled up today too, and they average out at 4.4l/100km, which has to be considered ok for the conditions and beeing studded tires.
