Look on the bright side, if they rip the transmission out, they will probably have to put new fluid in.

Just like my wife's car where the nice people at Hyundai had to put new coolant in the radiator after the old one failed. A few more years before that needs to be done again.....

Good point.  :goodjob:

Wow, if she's so uptight after your holidays, what would she be like without holidays

I think it's leftovers from her mum passing and stuff.. She's not been sleeping well since. Always had a short fuse about the Dealer after a few run ins about poor trade in prices and a couple of other things...  :undecided:

Ok... Finally took Trish's car in to be checked for the oil leak. I took it in because Trish was going to tell them not to let anyone "shit" like an apprentice touch it!  (women can be so tactful)

Anyway, they reckon it needs a new gasket for the bell housing (I guess that is where the transmission meets the engine?) They reckon it will take a week or so to get the part and then they want it for two days as they have to take out the transmission. Despite the fact they gave the filthy car a really good wash (but no vacuum) Trish was really pissed off that it wasn't picked up at the last service, that they didn't have the part in stock and that they will need it for two days (and she told the guy so).  :-[ :sweating: (I should have stayed outside while she collected the key)  :crazy1:

@cruiserfied If they take the gearbox out to replace the seal/gasket is it likely to affect the quality of the changes after? I won't want to be around if it does!  :crazy2: :crazy2:

probably mean seal/s. No gasket at the engine block to bellhousing but there is a rear engine main seal on the crank and there would be an input shaft seal on the box. The rest of the mating surfaces I'd expect to be liquid sealer (FIPG).

Of course I'm talking from generic experience, never seen a Hyundai manual box.

Dazz, if they have to drop the gearbox oil you could supply your own Penrite like I used and gear changes will be improved ( that'll make Trish happy), the standard sludge they use is useless.

The gear change is/was very good now. But I will find out if they will need to replace that (happy to make it even better)  :goodjob:

What exactly is the oil called please.

Yep :goodjob2: gearbox only holds 1.9ltr, the older Penrite bottles were exactly that so you're well and truly covered with the newer 2.5ltr bottles.

Trish's Tourer went in Yesterday for a main seal replacement (I think that is what it is called) They gave her a White 2016 Active Auto Hatch as a loaner ... Slumming it a bit (no alloys)

The leak was worse than anyone realised. It has leaked badly on to the clutch! Motors are now getting authority from Hyundai to replace the clutch as well. Trish is pretty upset.  :undecided:

They reckon $4000 plus labour (warranty) Don't know why parts would be that dear??

I'm going to drop in the oil Craig recommended early next week, while Trish gets used to driving the Auto Hatch..  :goodjob:

Hey Dazz & Trish,
All this from a few spots of oil on the floor.
Trish might get used to the auto before the other gets  back.
$4000 plus labour,  they probably charge  $140 an hr as well,  lucky it under warranty  👍

Thank Christ for warranty  :sweating:

Yeah! I thought a clutch would only be about $1200 including labour? :undecided:

I wonder if they need to drop the entire front end out to get to it all ? ?
I know my mechanic won't touch any CX9 again -owner  voided warranty, turbo bearings died, he knew he should have said "no", but said "ok I'll help you out " - just too nice a guy .

Yeah, I've heard tales of some cars that are real dogs to work on, but I don't think i30's are too bad. I'm no mechanic but think most Hyundais are based on fairly standard mechanical layouts.  :undecided:
