Hi all.
I’ve a 2012, 1.8ltr, i30 Exec, manual. I bought it 2 years ago, obviously second hand but in good condition.
Over the past 8 or 9 months it has been developing a rattle that sounds like the exhaust manifold rattling against the engine. I’ve had it looked at by 2 different places and they’ve checked that everything is tight and fine. Neither place could find any problem. One of them heard it but had no idea what it could be. The rattle happens mostly when in first or second gear and then disappears.
Someone said it may be a disintegrating catalytic converter but he isn’t sure.
Does anyone else know what may be happening or had a similar experience?

Your description does seem to be catalytic related, an exhaust specialist should be able to diagnose quickly.
Not sure if the 1.8 litre units have the same pre and post cats like my 1.6 had
