GOT PROBLEMS OR ISSUES? => GENERAL => Topic started by: FDGazza on April 23, 2023, 10:06:15

I'm having the following intermittent problem with the factory Sat Nav in my 2021 I30N.
I can select a route from A to B ,no problem , then activate the guidance function, no problem , but then , after 20- 30 mins driving or sometimes 5 mins driving , the the arrow showing the vehicle on the moving map , will move away from the road that I'm on , then the system gives a stream crazy instructions to get me back on the right road.
So far ,Ive tried a different antenna, wiring from antenna to unit and giving the antenna additional earthing connection.
See picture for current data base and firmware .
Is the firmware of the head unit updateable ?
Could the antenna and or wiring be getting interference from ( outside ) magnetic field ?
Anyone else encounter this ?
Unfortunately ,this is not a warranty case due to the N being a transplant ( see my "2017 SR to 2021 N Transplant !" ) post .
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers ,Gaz

Hi, Out of curiosity where and how have you mounted the gps antenna? Photos would be extra helpful.

Hi Aye 30
Antenna is stock installation just forward of rear hatch ref picture attached. The Sat Nav / entertainment system itself is completely stock as well.

Can anyone on the forum comment, if there is a diagnostic screen telling how many satellites the head unit is picking up? I think stationary, the antenna is picking up just enough to locate the head unit, but when moblie it may be dropping to one or two, not enough to accuratley locate. Possibly the antenna or head unit. Drive to a location where the gps wrongly locates you, park the car, and wiggle the two conections and units, to see if any changes. Also check your phone gps data to ensure it's not just a bad gps area. I dont have this model, and didn't even know that the fm/am antenna was integrated with the gps antenna. Good luck and the car looks great.

Problem solved,
Erratic GPS position indication turned out to be caused by the A/C climate control panel , I replaced it with the same part number
( 97250G4DA0MPP ) from a donor and GPS back to normal.
Remembering the entire car runs on CAN , everything talks to everything , go figure , any way , happy that it's all good !
Regards, Gaz

How did you find that out?
I hope it was not by disconnecting modules from harness one-by-one until you found the culprit. That would take a bit of time :)

It started with disconnecting the wireless charger , then the USB multimedia input , no change
Was driving along , and turned the A/C on ,within a minute the GPS started playing up .
Turned A/C off and GPS came good !
