Hi guys, please see photo for context.

My 2011 Hyundai i30 2.0 has been doing this for a while while idling. I can get anywhere from 20L/100km (11.76 MPG) all the way up to 60L/100km (3.9 MPG)

Note this doesn't happen while driving, only idling. I get 7L/100km (33.6 MPG)highway driving and 12L/100km (19.6 MPG) in stop-start-traffic.

My idle sits at just a hair over 1000 RPM but my car is just guzzling fuel while idling

Anyone have a similiar experience or know what the issue could be?

Thanks, Luke

Hi, Just out of curiosity, does your speedo drop to zero when the car is stationary, as it looks like your speed is at 4 or 5 kilometres.

@Aye30 yes it does drop to 0. I took that photo as I was starting to pull off from the traffic lights so I was moving. Noticed the fuel economy around 64L/100km and as I took the photo it dropped below to 59L/100km

I belive the instantaneous calculation is done on the fuel injector size x pulses per minute relative to the distance traveled. So stationary will drive up the value as you are not moving.
Our 2L 2010 fd idles at about 800, and I think it is supposed to be 750.  All stationary cars idling will have instantaneous fuel usage go high. Your car is idling higher, but  that may be down to factors as load on the alternator, airconditioning, oil thicknes and age or where someone has set the idle at, just to mention a few from a very long list.  Totally off  topic,  have you had the steering coulper replaced?

Have you checked what the idle speed is per handbook.

If not 2,000 rpm then set to book value and see how it goes.

My 1.4 petrol idles at 700 rpm.
