2012 i30 Petrol 1.8 GD
Hi,
Came out one morning to a car that could only crank but not start.  By coincidence, very low fuel level the previous day.  Probably just a couple of litres left.

Added 10 litres, replaced plugs and in-tank fuel filter, no improvement.  Replaced fuel pump, now car can idle.  Runs quite rough until it warms up.  While in park, can increase rpm but it drops off without easing off accelerator.

Over the last couple of years, I've had to replace all 4 ignition coils.  I used to get a P0017 fault so would just fix it but no faults this time.  I'm thinking ignition coil or injectors.  Any ideas and thanks in advance.

  Sorry to hear that, can't recall those issues being mentioned before in a 1.8 petrol. I'm no mechanic so I won't try and diagnose. Give it a day or two until our more active members from around the world have had time to read and digest your post. Will most likely be an Aussie that will help though as most of the GD's with that motor were sold here or possibly NZ I think.

Hello mate sorry your having trouble, strongly suggest cleaning maf sensor with the proper spray... plenty of you tube videos online and also a throttle body clean will help so much..

Personally I think throttle body cleaning in a petrol GD is a complete waste of time and money, I inspect my own throttle body from time to time when cleaning the filter and after 7 years it's still as clean and shiny as the day I bought it.

Inspect first before buying cleaner.

You do use 98 exclusively though don't you Craig, which you seem to think keeps things cleaner.. The 1.8 isn't a GDi motor either so maybe that might make a difference too..

Fuel doesn't go through the throttle body though so that wouldn't be the issue, if the 1.8ltr does manage to get any build up in there it would only be from the rocker breather.

I've never seen any muck come out of the 1.6ltr though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I tested the fuel pressure and it was too low.  The fuel pump module was stripped down and reassembled.   After it was reinstalled, it ran normally.  So the root cause was the fuel pump but incorrectly installed by me.

I've got one issue left. For a cold start, I need to turn the key to on for a couple of seconds (I can hear the fuel pump) before starting so I think its not maintaining pressure.
