Bad car vibes

Hi.
I'm wondering if you had this fixed?
My car vibrates badly from 80kph to 90kph when under load. There is no noise at all and no shudder in the steering wheel.
I just had a steering rack end replaced but that didn't fix it. I've rotated wheels on and off the car as well.

The revs don't matter. It the road speed. It starts at 70, then is really bad from 80 to 90. At 100 things are spinning so fast that it disappears.
I was at 85 and moved it to 3rd and the shaking was the same. When I moved it to neutral at 85, it was smooth.
It's much worse up hills when accelerating.

Seems to be driveline but maybe not the engine?

My auto trans is still under warrenty as I only got it from a wreaker a month ago.

The only time I've felt a similar situation to that which you describe, is on a car that has had constant hard acceleration and braking where the tread of the tyre is worn unevenly. There's probably a name for it, but I don't know.

Member Surferdude may be able to assist here.

Otherwise, I'd be very suspicious of the transmission as it has only recently been fitted. Was the problem there b4 the trans was changed  :question:

I took time off the road today and stopped past the transmission shop. Old mate popped the car on the hoist straight away and we discovered all the grease from the right drive shaft CV sitting on the suspension and exhaust!

The CV joint isn't clicking, it's just the bad shaking at 80 to 90kph.

New drive shafts on eBay are approx $150 per side. I just bid on a set from a wreaker :D
Mechanic says its a 2 hour job.

Mine was bought in November 2009.
5 years, unlimited kilometer warranty.

I bought my first one in April 2009 and it was 5 years, unlimited kms too (private use).

Yeah. It is business. I told them so when I purchased it and had them rego it as business as well.
I just remember the sales lady telling me that the warranty would be private. Never believe sales lady's!

I would have a hard time convincing them it was private when it's vinyl warped as a driving school car  :D

The warranty did cover a leaky rear shock, sticking seat belt and a broken key fob.
Parts I've purchased out of warranty are steering rack end ($160 fitted), auto trans ($2000 second hand and fitted), water pump, front sway bar links ($70 second hand and fitted free by the transmission guy), left and right drive shafts/CV joints ($170 second hand. installation is next week).
Also a battery, new front disk rotors, many many tyres and 2 lots of engine pulleys.

My 2010 car is up to 265000km now. Apart from the gearbox, I'm pretty happy with the wear and tear so far.

We just passed 50k in ours.  :Shocked:

Glad you found the problem. If you hadnt have found the problem, I was going to say cv joints. Just had my other car's (vw golf) cv joints replaced.

FYI.
Drive shafts (both sides) cost $180 labour to have installed. As they were second hand, the mechanic said one of them required some grinding work due to how it was removed from the last car.

Also, two years ago, an air conditioner pipe broke and that cost $600 to have fixed.
