Title: Flush fender well
Post by: kaizoku on April 13, 2019, 07:33:21
Hi all.

Has anyone tried upsizing their tyre profile on their PD i30 SRs/ N line?

I want to make the fender well look flush fit with the wheel.
I'm looking at either getting lowered springs or coilovers.
Or upsize the tyre profile

Stock set up is:
18x7.5   offset - 53mm
225/40R18

I was thinking to get a higher sidewall percentage to fill in the gaps of the fender well.

Eg.
225/45R18, 235/45R18, 245/45R18

I know it will change the Overall driving, ie (off speedo, less handling etc.)

The goal is more aesthetically driven.

Thoughts?

Getting the right look will be rather fiddly unless your best mate works at a wheel and tyre shop and can spend some time with trial and error, no doubt why you're asking here. My mod for looks experience dates back to the mid 80s when I put 235/55s on 14" rims that ended up beautifully flush on my Commodore, but little help to you now.

I wouldn't be changing the profile as that will mess with the handling as you've mentioned plus altering the speedo reading is just asking for speeding tickets :disapp:

The safer method would be a minimal (20mm-25mm) lowered spring to achieve your goal, drop to low and you'll likely require further suspension adjustments/parts and firm up the ride to much.

So I've done a bit of research with the potential new wheel setup. There is approximately 50mm of space between the stock wheel and fender well.
after using the wheel calculator, I could probably even go to a 50 series tyre. But that will most like cause rubbing issues.

currently, I'm keen on a 245/45/18 profile set up and will probably get aftermarket wheels with it.
rim size will be 18x8.5" or 18x9" with an offset between +35mm to +45mm.

Does anyone have a similar set up like this? if so, photos please?

I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anyone on here increase their rolling circumference on an i30, if you have researched properly you know it to be a foolish decision :head_butt:

I could almost guarantee that if you go any wider than 8” at 42 to 45 offset you’ll be sticking out past the guard and at those sizes you’ve mentioned there will likely be steering issues - unable to achieve full lock and guard scrapping, your choice in the end though and I’d be happy for you to prove me wrong.
