I have a 2007 i30 petrol auto with 90k up.

I have just replaced the timing chains and tensioner plus timing belt and tensioner.
I also changed the oil while I was at it.

When I restarted the engine the Malfunction indicator light has come on and did not go out.

I'm not aware of any electrical  items that were disconnected. However I have just remembered that I undid the front crank pulley bolt using the old quick hit of the starter motor trick, obviously with the spark plug leads disconnected.

Do any of you know any reason for the malfunction indicator to come on in these circumstances.
Also perhaps you may be able to help me fix it as well.

Thanks guys

Well beyond my area of expertise sorry (but others may know - hopefully)

Does everything sound and look o/k on the dials? Oil and water levels stable?

Have you disconnected the battery?

If not, try that.

It's possible some fault codes are stored in the ECU which may only be reset manually, using a scantool. In that case, a battery disconnect will not rest the warning light.
