Yes I believe it is useful to have a deterrent inside the car.

Can you post instructions Yosoypepo?

Thanks mate

yes, it's easy.

you must to found in this area two positive wires.

one positive always and another one that always works only with the contact given.

we need a relay like this (12v)

and make this way

you can put the flashing leds anywhere. The relays I got inside the door panel.

That is excellent YOSOYPEPO, thanks very much for posting the details

The flashing LED... does it have to be a 12v LED as that's what would be coming from the relay?

are you going to try to do it?
I might.

I would put a single LED on the dashboard, probably near the radio. It would be a blue LED and I would try to locate the power line that is active once the alarm has been set, if possible.

Maybe something like this (eBay)

EDIT: I just bought that item.

Thanks YOSOYPEPO for showing how easy it is to do

one thing. I tracked the fuse of the alarm, but before the system is that the active so the fuse is always running and we were not used to this mod.

if you find the alarm power line post it please

YOSOYPEPO,
Did you install this mod because your car does not have a factory fitted anti theft device?

My car is insured for theft, has deadlocks and will not start without the progameable key.

  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

what about an alternate flashing

with 2 leds in the same casing... how would I find a relay that does that for me? I know it's probably not practical, might not even look realistic, but it'll look cool to me, and that's what counts

I would use 555 timer chip, it's used mostly for led blinking. you can create a circuit smaller than a clicking relay

question is, how do I ensure that the red one flashes on while the blue one is off, and vice versa. Either I can work out to set a delay on one of them so they alternate on their separate timers (which I don't know how to do), or I set a new flashing circuitry up and I connect two plain LEDs. Unless there's another option?

How will this led work in the car, is it going to blink when the cars off, if so I hope you have better luck than me finding a 12V high current wire when the car's off  :'(

I'll be fitting the cathode to a permanent +ve, with the anode to the +ve that loses power to the radio when the key is removed. That means the -ve will be provided via the residual earth through the radio when the key is removed. Hopefully.

is it ok to put 12V over the led? usually a resistor is necessary to get the right voltage over the led.

here's a led circuit calculator: http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz

I've got an idea - I think I'll be dismantling some old Christmas lights (or maybe buy some post-Xmas-sale ones for $10-20) and re-engineering the circuit to work off the car battery and with only 2 LED diodes. Problem solved.
