Title: i30 (MY13, GD, Platinum) center instrument issue: frozen
Post by: BoboAU on November 20, 2020, 12:28:05
Hey everyone!

New to the club and first of many posts!

Anyone come across issues regarding the centre section of the instruments on the dash locking up at the "User Settings Mode" screen?

I'm unable to flick through the different views to display fuel efficiency, sub-trip mileage and steering wheel mode.

I've done the following troubleshooting:

Turned car off and on: unsuccessful
Locked/unlocked car and opened/closed door to initiate Welcome animation and chime: unsuccessful
Turned car on to JUST accessories: unsuccessful

Last time it worked was 2 days ago.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Welcome BoboAU, the only thing I can think of is disconnecting the negative battery lead for an hour which will reset the ECU.

Also...have you tried holding the Trip button (ignition on engine off) for an extended period of time as the dash message suggests?

Hey,

Thanks for replying!

I forgot to mention that as part of the troubleshooting.

Held down TRIP button whilst the engine's on as well as off while the ignition's on (as you suggested).

I'll give your other suggestion a crack by removing the negative for an hour - thought that might cause more issues than I wanted.

It's just odd that everything else on the dash works: the odometer, the fuel gauge, temperature...

Cheers for the suggestion anyways.

The Body Control Module (BCM) that you have is responsible for so many circuitry controls, so it can occasionally get a headache ;)

You wont lose much, trip and economy settings, radio stations, that about it I think when I last disconnected the battery.

Hey,

Just wanted to update you all on the removal of the NEG cable from the battery...

The section of the dash I mentioned jumped to the a section of the 'menu' called Trip A. None of the buttons would reset or move onto the next 'page', incl. holding onto TRIP button for an extended period of time (20s). It's now stuck on Trip A.

I've removed the NEG cable from the battery 3 times now and hasn't moved away from Trip A. The air-con settings did reset itself to being "on" when I turned the car on at 3-bar with 23 degrees C set. The radio was still the same settings as before.

I'm all ears for any other suggestions.

Thanks everyone.

Disappointing the reset didn't work :disapp: hopefully someone else has a suggestion or it may require a diagnostic check :undecided:

Hey everyone!

Happy 2021! Wishing you and your families all the best for the year ahead. Anything’s better than the crap we just endured lol

I’m going to throw this suggestion out there for any feedback, opinions and etc:

What are your thoughts regarding the clock spring? Could this be a contributor?

A few other conditions that I failed to mention prior to the instrument screen being frozen:

Air bag light warning: On
Horn: doesn’t work
Cruise Control: doesn’t work

Let me know.

Cheers!
