Hi All
I have just had a cylinder head problem with my I30 1.6 CRDI, ended up buying an engine from Kia Ceed( SAME Engine number D4FB), its now fitted but refuses to start, is this an ECU problem? has anyone had a similar experience??

G'day Nick

Mate can you repost in a suitable topic like diesel whether it be servicing or problems and issues.

Then I'd like more info like the exact ceed or even if the vin is known of the donor.
Even some good clear images of both engines.

A year model of the i30 would also be beneficial.

You probably did not read this note under say Hi.

"Please don't post your queries or problems in this board."

may be able to work out the differences, at a guess it could be with the fuel rail setup

@Nick777

The topic has been moved, so no need to start another. However, if you can supply as much of the info and photos as Gerard has requested it will certainly help us to possibly diagnose and advise on your issue.  :cool:

Are you sure that the cylinder head, or only cylinder head was the original problem?

Suspecting ECU maps to be different on this models, but not necessary.

Do you have any codes in ECU? Or it just does not start?

If no codes present, I would check fuel rail pressure and see that there is an issue (maybe injectors need replacing - back leak test). Also could be blocked fuel filter or blocked fuel filter in the tank sender unit. The worst case scenario is high pressure fuel pump.

:rofl: If this dude can't reply after I replied to him within 6 minutes of posting I suspect he's not coming back .

anyway, I've had a quick peek at the Kia setup and I highly suspect this is similar to those that go out and get any old i30 D4FB before checking production dates as the very early models had a pressure regulator on the the rail which was deleted later.

Already had 2 over here jump on the forum with no start  for that. Would also mean harness and ECU differences as well.

Would have been nice to see what it was ,  :fum:  on this one for no response. :winker:

Hi thanks for that, just waiting for a guy to look for any fault codes but he went on holiday for ten days after fitting engine and it is locked in his garage! very frustrating. If it is the Fuel regulator, how would I overcome this?
Cheers

Won't know Until we figure out the differences but in theory It may mean transferring the fuel rail. Of course I am guessing at this point. You should know the year of your car and maybe the invoice has details of the donor vehicle. Over here wreckers must produce an invoice which gives details like the VIN,, and often mileage etc.
If you have at least some info like that I may be in a better position.

Oh, welcome back  :lol:

 changing only the rail wont do it. need Pump also.
Like you, I base swap notion on our experience. Assume Kia Ceed is going to be late model.
How difficult is it for an owner to find the year of manufacture of his car in Britain?

Not difficult if you have the VIN number - KIA and Hyundai customer services - or perhaps a main dealer can look it up.

I understand that the 10th digit of the VIN No gives the model year. Not sure how you find the month

8 = 2008
9 = 2009
A = 2010
B = 2011
c = 2012
D = 2013
E = 2014
F = 2015
G = 2016
H = 2017
I = Not used to avoid clash with 1
J = 2018
K =2019

Oh, now tell me more about the pump deficiency(please, sir, can you tell me more) part numbers do change, I'm just trying to spot the difference between my Tractor and the rest of the Ippy fleet in the cold of darkness.

I did not get a very good angle with the old one.

Pumps on the Ce'ed

From Feb 2009 they had the last pump and was also when the fuel rail had the other regulator deleted.

Have a look at 'c' they are physically different re position,  probably termed '"measuring unit".

The diagrams look like U2 and pre U2.

My guessed logic is that C is replaced by the pressure sensor on the 2007-8 rail.

PS. Still on extended , leave just didn't want to see you disappearing down that rabbit hole. :winker:

I'm not seeing that. One exploded diagram has one rotated slightly but when you look at my photos, looks the same position. :question:

Have worked on the U2. Unlike the early version with alloy manifold, its near impossible ( or impossible) to remove sensor without  pulling plastic inlet manifold off.

Im working upon assumption re the earliest 2007-8 version.
