Title: Hyundai i30 towbar electronics
Post by: Mavreek on July 15, 2017, 23:38:24
Hi there this is my first post so I apologise if this is in the wrong area.
I'm fitting a towbar to my 2009 i30 1.6 diesel.

Do I need a canbus converter for this version to wire up the trailor lights or can I just directly tap into the rear lights?

I don't want to get this wrong as it will damage the ECU.

thanks

Chris

Hi Mavreek

 :wttc:

To my best knowledge the 2009 don't have canbus on the lights, but we might need @cruiserfied to confirm.

I installed my new reversing camera last week using a direct connection to my reversing lamp, no sign of CANBUS.

No CAN on taillights for your I30.
The factory harness is available cheap enough and saves making the harness.

Thanks for the comments guys, looking at the rear lights today the wiring looks hidden away as you have to remove the full light unit from the rear of the car to change the bulbs. Is the wiring easy to get at internally in the boot?

Not really, but removing the light cluster is the easier option anyway. Then you'll have lots of length, space and daylight. :goodjob:
