Hi all
Battery light came on today now waiting for a jump start the wife told me just before all the parts shops closed. Let's hope it's an easy fix with a new alternator.

I suppose after 410k you can forgive that.

Plenty on ebay if the shop can't help (or is too expensive)

Yea not bad for that much mileage on the original alternator
had to jump it again as esp light then everys shuttered no power steering then engine cut out. Had the jump again left it on for a while no battery light had full power. Hy parts quoted me $1400. Got it layed up at the parents where I'll try get an alternator.

My second thought was a short or something loose like the plug on the alternator

Recently replaced the alternator on my Son's VW Golf with 340,000 km on the clock. It was the original from 1998...

Got the old one out took a punt at the local parts place they said yea get there wrong one looks like a road trip to wangaratta tomorrow

Just a thought should I replace the regulator plug as well ?

Depends on it's condition. After that distance, there must be some brittleness from heat degradation.

I thought the regulator was built into these alternators?

Best to change it with those sort of k's

The regulator on my X3 Excel over charged the battery, battery exploded ... I heard a bang and kept driving (was on a highway) and then blew up the ECU, all the head lights, resistor on the heater blower and a heap of fuses... Surprisingly got the beast back on the road for less than $500. That car was unstoppable!

For an extra $18 plus I'll have to connect it up tomorrow after work

Can't get a plug have to buy the wiring loom just have to treat the old plug with care putting it back in.

Have you tried an auto electrician

All fixed  overnighted alternator and straight in just gotta get a new gasket as there's a slight oil leak from the cover
