Hi guys,

I just bought myself a brand new i30 Active X GD5DA.
I did only 135kms so far and recently noticed some weird squishing noise coming from the left side inside the dashboard. At first, I thought the car manual was moving around in the glove compartment when taking roundabouts. Then I realized that the sound only happens when turning to the right...
Then I realized that the floor mat on the passenger side was gorged of water! And some water drops were actually falling from above (where the passenger legs/feet are).
I am thinking that maybe someone at the factory forgot his fish tank in there.  :P
I took photos of where the water seems to be coming from. Any idea what is that part and what could be the reason?
Should I be worried that there is a leak of water inside the car that could damage some electronic parts?

Let's see what the car dealer has to say tomorrow... Unfortunately, I am too busy to bring the car for a check this week. I hope it is not going to get worst.
For a brand new car and after just a week, I am a bit worried...

Hi ctrc. Welcome to the forum.
Not sure what that is. Looks electrical.  Bosch branding?
I'm guessing there's a leak around the windscreen or the air inlets.
Someone may  have a better idea.
BTW, it helps ifuyou can tell us what country (at least), you are in as there are some variances around the world.

My bet is the A/C drain pipe got pinched on assembly and the condensation from the A/C has built up and finally found a way out.

Yes that is what it looks like!
It is just like if someone has thrown a bucket of water there...
It actually went behind the carpet. So unless they remove the whole carpet and dry it for hours, It is going to get mouldy for sure. Not so cool for a brand new car...

The pictures show the cabin ventilator/fan. If there's water under the carpets and in/around the fan I wouldn't wait a week to get it sorted.

If you don't use the a/c the water will vapour on the windshield. If you use the a/c there will be more water around the fan and in the carpets... :Pout: :Pout:

It's a brand new car and whatever is wrong is a legitimate warranty claim.

However, you have a duty to protect the interests of the supplier - leaving the problem to continue might come back and bite you. They could argue that by not attending to the problem promptly - the damage has been exacerbated by your negligence for which they are not liable.

Think about how insurance companies behave when you make a claim - the situation could be treated in similar fashion.

My car warranty conditions include the following statement

Exclusions :-
Damage due to factors beyond the manufacturer’s control
Examples of this could include:
 Misuse of the car. You’ll find proper usage described in the owner’s manual

:welcum: How very disappointing for you. It is not common in an i30 thankfully, but that doesn't help you. I agree with Alan, however I have been in several jobs over the years where it is almost impossible to get time off at short notice. So assuming this is the case,  you are between a rock and a hard place.

When they fix it insist they dry things properly. You appear to be more understanding than most in this situation.  I am reasonably laid back, but would be quite stressed about a fault like that. Even my 1984? Holden Camira didn't have that fault..

Drop the car off at the dealer and tell them you need a loan car to get to work while they fix it and dry out the carpets etc.  And  :wlcome02:

I had the same problem on a Falcon and the fix didnt take long. Carpet dried quickly too, though I had a rubber backed floor mat.

On the plus side the Hyundai 'carpet' isn't carpet so it should dry quickly.

I rang them this morning. They wanted me to bring the car on Friday. After explaining that I was very disappointed, they found a spot for checking my car tomorrow.
I went there today and dropped the car. The guy I talked with was easy to convince "i bought the car less than a week ago and did only 150 kms"; I had no booking scheduled, they took the car anyway.
I left my keys and told them I won't come back until it is completely dried out.
Then I went to see the sales department, talked with the manager, waited 5 min and they brought me keys for a Hyundai Ascent. No questions asked.

HI All,  Long time away from the club...  sorry.

Re the water problem,my sister had a similar experience last year where the front mat was always damp.
It went back a number of times to the dealer.. and got the "hose treatment".. but no leaks.

Upshot was that there was a faulty ( not sealed properly) seam in the underside body work firewall/wheel arch.

The dealers made the repair and corrected the fault and all was well. So I suggest that you look there  and inspect all the seams and proof coat.
Hope this helps. :)

It has been 2 weeks now and every times I called they tell me the same thing: "the parts have ordered, we are waiting for the new parts to arrive..."  :'(
I should probably ask them for a new car it will be much faster... And since that faulty has only 135kms on the counter...

I got my car back.
Here is what they found/did:
Quote
Removed console trim on N/S and found A/C drain tube kinked from factory install resulting in water from A/C not escaping from tube and flooling N/S/F footwell soaked.
Replaced A/C drain tube, floor carpet, matt.
