Hi,

I may have an issue with the air con on my I30.

I can't tell if the thing is cold enough, mainly due to the fact temperatures are around a max 4 degrees at the moment. The car is still under warranty and I would like to know if it is working well, before the end of the warranty.

Would any codes appear on OBD2 if the Freon was low.

Thanks

Nope, as far as I know there are no vehicles that have low refrigerant warnings, only way to really know is to pressure test or reclaim and weigh.

When my former i30 (FD, similar to yours) had low pressure you could easily hear that the aircon clutch wasn't engaging when a/c was selected.

On my GD you couldn't hear a thing either way.

I can definitely hear the aircon kicking in. As the temperature got up to 6 degrees today I take it there wouldn't be any difference in the temperature coming out of the vents between the non a/c low, and the a/c low?

Safe bet would be to get it pressure tested i suppose.

How old is the car?

Now with my gd the aircon is not as hot or cold as my previous fd.

I asked the service guy at the dealers and was told the difference was due to the change in refrigerant speci due to change in regulations.

As still under warranty it may be worth askig just to be satisfied all is ok.

2009 and goodness knows when the aircon was last regassed.

The pipe in the engine bay isn't cold to the touch and isn't sweaty, (but whether that's due to the cold outside temperature I'm not sure - I know pipes usually get sweaty on hot days).

Their is no difference between it blowing cold and blowing cold on A/C as far as I can tell.

I was hoping P0534 would help, but obviously not, as no errors are present.
The P0534 code signifies that the system has detected the AC compressor clutch cycling too frequently, which is a sign of low refrigerant.

Heat up the cabin, put it on recirculation.

If a/c doesn't work it will just blow the same temperature air out the vent's. If a/c works, it will blow out cold air...  :P

Thanks for the tip (after you stated that it felt so obvious !)  :head_knock:.

I'll give this a try tomorrow on the way to work.

Here we have heated parking garages in some larger shops and malls. If there are any, drive in one of those and try air con in there.

It was a hole in the condensor. Am taking it back to the garage and letting them fix it.

Hopefully everything else is ok. Second car I've bought where the air con wasn't working. You'd think I'd have learnt by now.

Thanks for all the advice, it's appreciated.

Now to deal with the inside door handle silver coming off the passenger side, and a semi-detatched screen that hides the mirror on the passengers sun visor.
