Hi all this is my first post so hello to all  and be kind lol.i have a hyundai i30 2010  cdri  edition and I am having trouble trying to find a headlight to wing/ bowl seal.i phoned the dealer and was told  more or less you cant buy them on their own.the left and right front headlights are perfect except for the seals.could anyone tell me if it is possible to buy the seals on their own here in the U.K?

Many thanks.

You might need to explain what a bowl seal is, is it the screw on caps :undecided:

 :welcome:
I have never known any part of the car to be called a wing/bowl seal but I'm guessing it's the black plastic that spans the gap between the front headlight cluster and the panel work.
I'm also guessing it exists only as part of the cluster. Is it something you can fix using a non reactive black sealant?

Your correct mate that is exactly the part.sorry for the confusion blame Google lol.can this seal be bought on it's own or can you recommended the best way to stop the water getting behind the lights.

Is the water ingress occuring inside the light cluster or are you concerned over the water working into the engine bay?

Either way, short of buying a new cluster or a 2nd hand cluster from a wrecking yard, I would build up a generous thickness of sealant bead and then fit and press into place to form to the required shape. Think of it as using gasket goo.

To stop the goo sticking to the panel and curing only onto the cluster, you can use clear plastic cling wrap over the panel before pressing, I suppose. Just make sure it's a non reactive neutral curing sealant to stop it potentially dissolving the wrap or damaging the paint.

Use your fingers or small soft spatula dipped in detergent to shape the outside bead without it sticking to you.

... that's what I would do any way.

I wonder if some J trim seal would work :link: 3M J Tape Car 4WD Door Rubber Seal Strip Edge Sealing Protector Strips Black | eBay  :undecided: looks similar now I know what we're talking about.

Water will probably still get to the engine bay over the top of the headlights whatever you do.

Is it missing, perished or showing signs that water has penetrated?

Otherwise what you have will probably be as from the factory.

If you put photo on here and i'll compare to my car.

The photo will be handy. I've had my FD clusters off to fit my DRLs in them.

Yes i would agree with you.

If they removed to replace bulbs then you need to take back and ask them to refit correctly.

If they have ruined the seal then they should replace at their cost.

Ps on both my cars the seal is flush with body with No gaps.

Looks almost like the locating tabs have been missed/overshot.

I'd try to reseat them myself before investing in any kind of gap filler.

:wts: The rubber seal is still on there so it's not been put back properly.

all of the above, there's 3 bolts 2 at top  and 1 inside roughly near the connector. Watch teh tiny tab that inserts into the guard they snag and snap off if not careful and there is also a locking tab as part of the radiator support frame which the headlamp unit clips in to if seated correctly, possibly not seated in that too.

A picture is worth 10EXP3 words.
Your garage dude has missed all the important detail.
Nothing wrong with your seal.
If you're careful and thorough you can refit it properly.
If you want the garage to be responsible for further risk, get them to refit.
