Hi guys, sorry if this is a simple question but I'm hard wiring my dashcam in and my voltmeter isn't working.

I have the cable run and ready to go.  As per the above picture, can someone please confirm the draw side is on the left? (with the right being the load). 

I'm more of a software guy, so electronics sometimes confuse me.  If my understanding is correct, if I plug it in the wrong way it will still work but when the fuse blows, it won't blow on the correct path and will cause damage.  Happy to be corrected/learn.

Correct, place with fuses facing upwards/draw to left.

To test the live side of any fuse, remove it and only one end will have voltage. Even without a multimeter or test lamp, you can use the power line of your dash cam as the probe.

In the photo I can see a red wire with an in-line fuse holder. Is that the live feed to the dash-cam? Just make sure that whatever 12V feed you take the supply from, it switches off when the car is locked otherwise the dashcam will drain the battery if left switched on.

When I wired in a towbar relay to the fuse-board, I bought a piggy-back device that plugged into where a fuse is fitted, then you plug the fuse into it so the original circuit remains protected. The piggy-back has a short flying lead which can then be connected to the wire for the new circuit, I used an insulated butt-splice crimp to join the wires.

At the time, the car was still under warranty so I didn't want to interfere with the fuse board.
