Hi,
I have a problem with my hyundai i30 1.4 2009 LPG.Sometimes when I start the car the engine runs really slow like it's going to turn off and the check engine light turns on all the time until the car turns off itself without me doing anything. When I told this to my mechanic he suggested that I push the accelerator pedal at the moment and help the engine,so I did that and when I press the pedal at the same moment the car turns off.
After that when I start the car again the engine starts like nothing has happened.
So,in the winter this has happened 1 or 2 times a month and now it happens nearly every day.
Does anyone has any experience with this type of problem?
I just want to add that recently I've changed the timing chain set and the power belt.(if that has anything to do with this problem)

Hi Kliment. Hope someone can help. Unfortunately LPG models are scarcer than hens teeth on here and it is unlikely any of our three Aussie based technical advisors have had any experience with one.

Can you switch between normal fuel and lpg? Sounds to me like some sort of starvation.  By that I mean, it sounds like a problem with the injectors not feeding enough petrol or lpg through to maintain adequate revs. This could be by way of dirty injectors or be due to the body control module/ecu not sending the right information.  But being that I am not a DYI mechanic I would not know how to check or fix that.

Hi Kliment,
Sounds like Dazz is on the  right track,  not enough  petrol /gas at start up.

I would check gas / petrol solenoids,  switching  on, then off, then back on and it starts ok sounds like they are not working smoothly / coil weakening, not making the movement in one go.
They usually play up once or twice , every now and then and then they play up all the time.
Remember to turn it off at the TANK BEFORE  you start removing solenoids.

You've  changed the timing chain,  but if it was out a few degrees,  what you are doing would not fix it ,so I'd say chain was done correctly.

Thanks for the reply.
If that's the issue I suppose I should check the petrol solenoid because I start the car with petrol and then it automatically changes to LPG.
I will take your advice and tell my mechanic to test the solenoid but can you please tell me step by step how to do that because I don't know if he knows how to do that??
Also if you can send me a picture of that solenoid I will really appreciate it.
Finally if that turns out to be the problem do we need to clean it or change it?
How serious is this??

Yes the car changes from petrol to lpg automatically and that is working great just now I went to check my LPG system and everything was great they told me.

I wondered if there was still a bit of normal fuel needed when running on lpg, so I did a google. Doesn't sound like it, but this site has picture of a solenoid and other helpful info...

Thanks I just read that and saw where is the lpg solenoid. When I was at the mechanic to check my lpg I've changed the lpg filter that it needs to be changed every 20 000 km.
But I cant find the fuel injector.
Does any of this look like it ?
